2015 Z71 Electrical / Power/ Starter Issues?

Recommended Posts

Morning,

I am not a gear head hence why I am reaching out on this platform. Hopefully I explain this well enough.

A couple weeks ago I started having issues with my truck not starting, Like zero power, I would turn key and nothing would come on the dash even.

I would move some wires near the battery and the fuse box cover on top of the battery and I would get enough power to start.

The other day, driving to the store I totally lost all power?

I tested the battery and we were getting 12.9 volts

Used the meter to check wires, read fine.

Could it be a starter that's draining the power?

Is my battery reading 12.9 volts but doesn't have enough cold cranking amps?

The picture is the top of my battery, there are so many connections that's where my first thought goes but I am not sure!

Any help would be appreciated!

Check that all the connections are clean and tight.

Use a digital voltmeter to monitor the voltage on the battery while starting, if it drops below 10 volts, its bad and needs replaced. (Alternatively take it to an auto parts store to be load tested.)

The cables can also corrode inside the insulation and no longer be able to carry current.
