How much more does a deisel weigh than a big block

Recommended Posts

I'm curious, as far as a real-world number goes.

300 pounds? 600 pounds?

I always hear people gripe about how their deisel trucks sink like bricks in the mud, yet people continue to buy them en masse anyways....

So how much heavier are we really talking here?

From My research, It shows that the 6.6L Duramax wieght comes in at 836Lbs, and the 8.1L Big Block at 734Lbs. That is only 102Lb difference. Those numbers were found by doing a Google search. If anyone has real world numbers please chime in.

Redapple-

I think that number is pretty close. IIRC, I came up with a less than 150 pound difference when I researched it a few months ago. It could be that the blocks are the 102 pound difference, and there may be some additional components with the diesel to account for another 40-50 pounds. In any case, it's not like the Duramax is significantly heavier than the big block.
