Tire blowout.. 43K

Recommended Posts

I have about 37K on mine.  Thanks for making me nervous!  😉 They are about done anyway.

I wonder how much sun these failed tires have gotten?  Mine is a garage queen and the sidewalls look like new compared to the tires in these blowout pictures.

I too experienced the samething yesterday 8.23.22. I have a 2020 chevy 2500hd with 18k miles on it and the rear driverside tire blew, this cause the rear panel to get heavily damaged and my tailgate. The tire separated from the tread and slapped the rear tailgate, denting it. I didnt trust the other tires, so i replaced the others. These tires were the stock GY wrangler trailrunner LT275/65 20r. These tires are garbage, if you have them i suggest changing them out.

Just doing some googling and found this forum post.

Driving home yesterday towing a toy hauler with my dads '21 AT4, 24k miles on it, with these same tires mentioned in this thread and started to feel a light wobble, thought maybe it was road, felt wobble get worse and thought "Maybe a separated tire" (My dad had a left rear separate last summer) On the freeway about a quarter mile from nearest exit, BOOOOOM. Tire blew and destroyed the side fender panel. Luckily already slowed down and only went at about 60 as opposed to 80.

2 rear tires in a matter of 1 year and less than 24k miles on either.

Cousin has '20 AT4, same tires, blew his last summer under 20k miles. Much more damage on his truck though.

Dads friend has '22 Denali and same thing. Blown Goodyear Trailrunner. His less than 15k miles.

These tires are absolute trash and unsafe and if you have them just beware...

They recalled all those Firestones cuz Ford said it was the tires causing accidents which was TOTAL BS, but with documented defects in the Goodyears they do nothing. Probably because no one has died, just property damage

Back in the seventies Firestone had a belt problem even on new ones. They also made tires for sears. My brother bought a new Ford Elite. You could tell the tires were bad. He was in the military and worked at sears at night. He got a discount on tires. After purchase he found out Firestone made their tires. After a few replacements they said working as designed.

Michelins came on my poverty model. Second truck I’ve had them on and no issues ever. Very quiet riding tires too

Yes...but which Michelins? If they are the Primacy, they are a lower level tire.

I'm probably overly cautious when it comes to tires, I replace them sooner than most people do. Mine and the wife's life rides on tires.

If I had a tire blow out I would just replace them.

I never had a blow out or a flat. My wife either. That includes my hauling trailer. I never bought a cheap tire or gone past 50 percent wear. Now I probably jinx myself.

I had a pair of Goodyears on the rear of my 98 with 80% tread. 1 blew out with a full load, no warning, and demolished the side of the bed, wheel house was almost torn out. Bought a set of Firestones the next day and threw the other Goodyear away. They were load range E, properly inflated to 80psi so it made a big boom when it went

LTX a/t2

@Pryme My cousin bought a 2024 Chevy 2500HD LT that came with the Michelin LTX A/T2 tires and likes them. Your trucks probably run smoother with the 18" LTX A/T2 tires than mine with the 20" BFG KO3's. But mine looks pretty bad ass!! :)
