My Auto Stop/Start quit working after the first couple hundred miles

Recommended Posts

NOT that I'm complaining because I hated it but I noticed after a drive recently I forgot to disable it and it never kicked on. I've put about 500 miles on it since I noticed it not working and every time I don't disable it and it hasn't kicked on once. I have no CEL and it's been anywhere from 35-80f degrees. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue? As long as nothing is "wrong" I'm not going to report it because I'd rather it stay broken.

At certain times of the year, mine will rarely come on, especially during spring and summer.  If I have the radio going  at a decent volume, and the AC or Heater on high, it will RARELY come on.  I know there are parameters within the system that keep it from "kicking on" that deal with battery draw, so if you are charging items in your truck while doing other things that require a substantial draw on the electrical system, that might be why yours doesn't activate.

You may have made me just realize something, I installed my dash cam right around that time. I will test unhooking that and see if that's what's causing it. Thanks!

I have a flashlight that's using the USB port in my console box and it's why mine has not worked since then. It only activates when there's sufficient power in the battery.. and I noticed mine would activate only after very long trips so I realized it was the battery.

I had the issue with the auto stop/start not working about 1 1/2 years ago.  I took it to the dealer.  They found that the battery had a bad cell.  They replaced the battery under warranty and it has been functional ever since.

There is a list of reasons why it might not kick-in (when it is working correctly(

If none of them apply, it's your decision about getting it corrected.

Auto Stops may not occur and/or Auto Starts may occur because:
. The climate control settings require the engine to be running to cool or heat the vehicle interior.
. The vehicle battery charge is low.
. The vehicle battery has recently been disconnected.
. Minimum vehicle speed has not been reached since the last Auto Stop.
. The accelerator pedal is pressed.
. The engine or transmission is not at the required operating temperature.
. The outside temperature is not in the required operating range.
. The vehicle is in any gear other than D (Drive).
. Tow/Haul Mode or other driver modes have been selected.
. The vehicle is on a steep hill or grade.
. The driver door has been opened or the driver seat belt has been unbuckled.
. The hood has been opened.

. The Auto Stop has reached the maximum allowed time.

Mine frequently doesn't activate due to some of the reasons above, especially at the start of a trip.

I've also figured out that I can reduce the brake pressure enough to have it restart, without actually moving...after doing that the "Minimum vehicle speed has not been reached since the last Auto Stop" item applies and it will not re-activate at that stop.

I just had that happen to me. Truck had been sitting for long time over winter - nowhere to go with COVID - no issues starting or other issues seen but no autstop. Charged up the battery and it started working again. Guess even driving a few times (30 min trips locally) did not charge it enough. Battery was around 12.4 when it did not work and 12.5 when it did.

A long 1-hour highway drive will fix that. At least it does for me.
