New ZR2 - so far I’m liking it

The ZR2 should have come with a supercharged engine not just the same old 6.2 to really separate it from the pack.

Honestly, that would have kept me from buying one. The 6.2 had plenty of power for me! GM would have had to make it full time 4WD for sure and I definitely dont want that. My 6.2 has a hard enough time as it is getting traction in 2WD!  The added cost of it along with the reduced fuel economy would have been the deal breaker.

NEVER!   One can never have enough power. It should have a supercharger, and just because it has a supercharger doesn't mean it cant get decent mileage. My buddy has a 2013 Avalanche with a Procharger, makes over 700 hp and can still get 20 mpg driving 70 mph going down highway!  Now when he steps on it and roasts the tires at 40 mph, then yes, it get 9 mpg, but it is possible to just set the cruise and get decent mileage.

That’s why they have the trail boss. I thought the ZR2 was supposed to be something special. Like GM’s version of the TRX or Raptor.

That is a Ram. They are notorious for getting worse gas mileage. My buddy leases Ram's. Has had 2 of them and neither of them have reached EPA ratings. His new one has e-Torque and he even calls that a gimmick.  Just giving you a fact that his LS3 6.2L that has forged pistons, and hotter cam, because its already been blown up once by his son, can achieve decent gas mileage!

I don't know why everyone expected the ZR2 to be supercharged. It never has been! It's always been about a more capable off road truck or suv than a Z71. I think Gm should have just skipped the Trail Boss and equipped the Z71 with all the TB features. Offer the current ZR2, then introduce a high performance "pre-runner" type truck to compete with the Raptor and TRX.

I totally agree with you on that point!!  But they (GM) already have the Trailboss out for 3 years, that's why the ZR2 should have a supercharger.  And to only give it different shocks, bumper, and front/rear lockers is very disappointing! They have a plethora of GM crate motors, or supercharged motors to put in it!  It's complete nonsense!

Well the only comparable truck, the "TRX" is rated at 10 mpg city and 14 mpg highway.

Yes, terrible mileage for a 700HP brick on 35's but they are selling them very well.

I stand corrected and thank you.  I thought there was a minor difference but it appears they are the same other than the chrome 6.2 badge which I wish wasn't on mine.  Honestly, I am not a fan of the hood scoop period.  It's non functional and impedes viewing over the hood.  Is it actually bolted onto the hood on simply stuck with 3M?  If it is stuck with 3M, I may remove it.  If not, I have to live with it.  Or, maybe I will have a body shop cut out holes in the front of the scoop where there are multiple indentations to help the engine breath better.  And, it's so weird that on both the trailboss pictured and in the chevy accessories catalogue, only front mud flaps are available....SMH.

I think the Trail Boss should have the standard hood, IMO.  Cosmetically, the only thing really separating them is the grille and the bumpers.

Removing the hood dome, you won't like what is underneath.  That dome/scoop is bolted to the hood, and the hood is open underneath it.
