ZR2/AT4X Mudflaps (Or lack therof)

Recommended Posts

Just a small thing I noticed...

Was watching some of the First Drive videos on YT and one in particular mentioned that as a last minute change the mud flaps were removed. The reason being that off-road they were getting shoved upwards and not only damaging the flaps but also the new plastic trim around the wheel well. Can see they changed for production as the pre-production still had them. Anything extra to help with clearance I guess like with the exhaust.

AT4X doesn't get this change but has similar setup so wonder if anyone has had that complaint on Sierras getting damaged since they all have the side trim and flaps. The Trail Boss didn't have the side trim so guess was never a problem till the ZR2...

Strange?  Why do one but not the other. Yet, doesn’t surprise me. GM looks like they are paying more attention to the ZR2 than the AT4X. Heck they both should have gotten the same bumper. I really like the ZR2 bumper. AT4X is same as standard AT4.

Yeah the GMC got shafted when it comes to the bumper. What is odd is that they gave the Yukon AT4 a unique bumper , so why not the truck ? I swear some of the decision making at GM makes zero sense . Well it does dollars and cents for them sense.

Yeah it's like they did the AT4X because they had to and didn't invest too much time in it. 🤔 I get they were probably going for it to have mostly same features as ZR2 but in a more toned down way, but they could of at least had it stand out differently more than the AT4.

Which goes against everything GMC is. GMC is supposed to 1+ Chevrolet. It's "claimed" to be the more luxurious of the 2 brands, but they seemed to half-@$$ the AT4X.  Heck like @f8l vnmstated. The GMC Yukon has the exact bumper, it's not going to cost GM that much money to put it onto the AT4X.  Sometimes I sit here and scratch my head and wonder how in the world some people get to where they are in this world without know a d@mn thing.

Like my old man once stated: "It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know!

It's the "luxurious" part that that GMC kept them. It keeps the mud off your truck when you drive through a puddle. The ZR2 is expected to be used like it was intended. GMCs are going to be bought just for bragging rights and not actually used. People will buy the X because the shocks make all the difference in the world for ride comfort. I want to know if they can be retrofitted to a 19-22 refresh Trail Boss.

Took delivery of my AT4X last week and first thing I did was remove the mud flaps, was Absolutely needed to size up tires since no leveling kits available for these yet.

was able to fit 285/60r20 Nittos (33.7x11.5) on Fuel 20x9 +1 offset wheels and helped give it the stance it should have came from the factory with in my opinion.

100% agree on the front bumper. My wife has a Yukon AT4 and they should have given it that same treatment at least if not the ZR2 bumper for clearance.

loving the truck though and the interior is night and day from my 2020 AT4!
