locking wheel nuts

Recommended Posts

The truck, 2022 Sierra 2500HD, was delivered with a set (one per wheel) of locking wheel nuts, key supplied of course.

Took it in (Tire outlet, not GM) to remove winter tires and it appears they stripped the key/lug on the second to last wheel, making it impossible to hand-torque the lugs with the key. I had them replace the keyed lugs with regular ones. They advise the key/lugs are a cheap set and when I examined them, they appeared like a generic, less than top-quality, product. The nubs (or whatever they are called) were somewhat rounded to begin with and are more-so now.

Was considering getting a better quality replacement, but got to wondering if I even need a new set.

Does anyone use locking lugs and, if so, are they manufacture provided or did you obtain a higher quality set? And recommended brand, if so.

I Personally dont use them, because if someone wants your wheels, they'll take them with or without that lock nut. They are really easy to remove.
