If it weren't for emissions demands and MPG requirements we'd all be driving flathead engines, timing retarded 2 and 4 stroke diesels that produce lots of soot and deposits while being inefficient and underpowered. 

 

The market is not free, and development of most modern technologies was driven by government funded research for DOD and Space programs. 

 

Funny how most adult males from age 80 down buy into the authoritarian leaning paradigms on the internet as a left vs right battle when its really informed vs uninformed mislead bias focused lemmings that fall for the real BS.  

 

When your viewpoint is that the constitution of US has to be overthrown you might not really be a patriot?

not being sarcastic, but what are the emmissions issues besides the dreaded C02 gas thats causing global warming, last I checked we all enjoy a warm climate and the trees absorbe all the C0 emmissions. 

 our catalytic converters and fuel injected motors are extremely clean and lean burning.  The only dirty drivelines are Aircraft, Trains, and cargo ships

And we got there how? By doing what you protest doing. Making it more efficient. Benz best has been 50% of the fuel burned actually making something move. In the 60's something no one thought possible when motors were 22-25% efficient and LA looked like fog everyday, all day. Koenigsegg has upped the ante. He is good and yet not the last word. That frog jumps only half way each time. Perfect is not possible but better always is. 

 

About those trees......seen Brazil recently? Oh wait.....millions of burnt acres right here at home, right? God created a wonderful machine with an oxygen and carbon cycle that works like a Swiss watch. Man just likes to step on the scales allot. Ever see a controlled burn get uncontrolled? Best plans of mice and men...what a way to run a circus. Well that weight on the scales is about out of control now. 

 

Honestly this isn't something man can nor would be willing to fix. even if he could. We don't have the ability nor the desire. Not as a group. About the only thing left all the mentally healthy agree on is the desire to continue to draw a breath. Everything else is an argument worth killing for. Stupid stupid humans doing stupid stupid things.....for money, for power, for prestige. Not one of those things can you eat or cover yourself with.

1966 was the first time there were emissions laws in of course California. 1970 the rest of the country. 1975 mileage law were beginning. The above mentioned engines were long gone. The free market ruled engine sizes and efficiency. There were all sizes of cars and engines. Like usual the government acted to fast leading to crappie cars made in America after the seventies. Allowing cars made overseas to dominate the mileage wars. Ultimately American cars companies almost went under from making undesirable cars. The effects are still being felt. The government is doing it again pushing electric too fast. The government needs to stay out of it. Let the market dictate like it supposed to.
