Ordering and First Drive Experience

Recommended Posts

As there have been a few threads/multiple pages on ordering and wait times etc, thought I would provide my experience on a new order. 2022 Sierra 2500HD SLE.

- End Sept '21, visited dealer A with on-line build sheet and some questions. Went through two salesmen who couldn't answer some very basic questions. Finally taken over by sales manager, who took my build request and told me he would email me the build sheet for my approval, within a day. Received email next day without any attached build sheet. Replied no attachment, manager responded that he was now out of town but would get me the build sheet in two days when he returned. Did not hear from him again....sort of.

- Early Oct, visited dealer B. Taken care of by salesman, great guy. Build sheet done up, with some requested changes (wanted regular mirrors rather than trailer). Deposit paid. Advised no more than 3 - 4 months.

- End of Dec, visited dealer B to seek a couple further changes (wanted regular tailgate and no rear sliding window) as salesman advised order had not yet been picked up by GM. Sat down with ordering manager for over an hour, who finally stated that the changes were possible, but tailgate could not be changed until order had been authorized by GM. Manager would put "watch" on order and as soon as it was authorized, he would change order and call me in to sign off as they could not forward order without customer's signature. As new order was $500 less, told manager I would order a couple new items to make up for difference.

- Early Feb '22, received call from manger dealer A, advising me my order was picked up and would start build next day. I said "What order? You never sent me any build sheet to authorize, and I haven't signed anything." Reply "Well, it's being built and should be here in about 59 days. I will call you then and if you want it, it will be yours." Uh.....OK.

- End Feb, received call from salesman B. Build complete and just put on rail car. Should be here around Mar 20. I said "Whaaaat? What about the changes that I was supposed to sign off on? Reply "No, there are no changes." Uh......OK.

- Week of Mar 20, call from dealer B. truck has arrived. Visited dealer next day. No change to tailgate and window, but they did add the two changes I had agreed to add to make up the cost - which now means the cost actually went up by $500. Also discovered the regular mirrors, which the website stated came with blind-spot mirror on drivers side, were actually just flat mirror. Ordering manager said "Well, they do say product may not be as specified."

- By coincidence, next day, dealer A manager called and stated that his salesperson had spoken to me and I had informed her that I wanted to cancel my order, and he wished to confirm I still wanted it. Informed him that I had never spoken to a salesperson, let alone a female, about cancelling my order, but I was no longer interested in the vehicle.

And there are a couple other related issues with coverage packages that I am still dealing with (hint, DO NOT get the dealer offered rust/corrosion packages as GM advises against it and will not cover any issues which may arise - which was a "surprise" to the dealer staff), but perhaps that is for another thread.

And, with that all said and done, within a week of taking possession of vehicle, drove it to/from BC and Denver, Co. Drove like a dream. Better mileage than my previous truck (Sierra 6.2L).
