Whats the wheel hp and torque of the 5.3 and 6.2?

Recommended Posts

5.3L is around 280ish on a lot of threads I’ve read.  The 6.2L is 350ish on most of those threads as well.

the 10 speed is what makes a difference. The K2s transmission programming hindered them. They were terrible!!

The new T1s 10 speed programming is smooth, flawless, and quick shifting.

My 6.2L High Country 10 speed with just a Corsa Catback and S&B intake would beat my 2018 Sierra 6.2L with Gibson Catback exhaust, S&B intake, and Hypertech tune.  The transmission wasn’t tuned just motor. Back then in 2018 even Black bear performance didn’t have a transmission tune yet. That’s why I bought the Hypertech for $300 that gave it a 27 hp bump from stock. Hypertech thought with the exhaust and CAI it was around 40 HP. It was a nice handheld system for the money.

There are a few calculators out there for trying to get a guesstimate at wheel horsepower.

I plugged my numbers into one of these calculators with my 1/8th mile times I did a while ago. The first one used trap speed and vehicle weight and the other used E.T. and vehicle weight.

The numbers came out to be 328hp and like 290hp, if we avg that out lets say it's ~305-310hp and that seems about right. I also plugged into a calculator the numbers of 355hp horsepower at the crank and 5.650lbs. The thing said it could do a 9.23 @ 73-74mph.

I did my 1/8th mile in 9.8 at 72.9mph spinning off the line on a crazy muggy day on street tires. So take from that what you will.

Stock 6.2 10 speed with cut off muffler and flapper with 1970 miles on the truck put down 387HP and 465 LB/FT torque on a 90+ degree day with 60% humidity.

I could possibly believe that horsepower number though it's a little high but that torque number isn't accurate. Plus we can't get the 10 speeds in the correct gear on a dyno with the stock driveshafts and limited wheel speed. That correction factor on that dyno is a little out of whack.

He had problems with it holding the gear he wanted as it kept wanting to upshift so the numbers show a range.

Yes, muffler and flapper valve(only had one on my truck in front of muffler) and replaced with Magnaflow straight pipe. Unless you count changing the oil at 1000 miles with Mobil 1 and a Purolator Boss filter!
