1999 Silverado 1500 Interchange

Recommended Posts

I have a wrecked 1999 Silverado 1500 extended cab short bed 4x4, 4.8

Everything from the motor to the wheels is in good well maintained condition.  The body and frame are total loss.  My question is what options can I swap my motor, transmission....ect into?  I believe I can put it in any 1500 1999-2006 but not sure.  Will it also fit into Tahoe or suburban? Years?

1999-2002 would be a direct swap but still requires tuning to make it work if you used every single thing from that 1999 engine. The first year trucks have smaller fuel injectors and the EGR was removed after model year 2000 I believe. So a non EGR manifold would be needed on newer trucks or a block off plate installed.

The engine itself without any bits and pieces could be swapped in place of another though, like even into a 2004 truck for example. You'd just install all the top end parts from the newer truck on the long block.

Would that include the Sonomas, Tahoes, Suburbans & Yukon's?

Not sonomas, those are different engines altogether.

A silverado/sierra would be all the same, just the body panels are different looking. The SUV's like the tahoe/suburban/yukon do run the same engine but a few things may be different depending on year. It's minor things like the drive by wire system that started around 2001 on some trucks depending on model. The EGR was phased out at the same time I believe.

Finding a 4.8 SUV is kinda rare and would only be in the shorter tahoe/yukon.
