2014 reliability

Well the 2010 turned out to be not rust free. Frame and wheel wells were starting. And the 2015 sold before I got a chance to look. But now came across a 2017 crew 1500 4x4 with 65k private party for 30k. Nada book value is over 37k. Would you have any hesitation buying a 5 yr old truck with 65k? It's seems like a good price

I read a few days ago that the 14-15 GM trucks had more quality problems than any other time in history. People of course will dispute that. I suggest doing a deep dive in reliability reports.

Yeah, but it was all recalls.

Only legit problem I know of is the AC system. The AC system really pissed me off.

I bought a 2014 Sierra 1500 crew cab in 2017 with 49000 miles for $24900.00. Was in excellent condition. I don't drive it much. Has 54000 miles on it now. So far here have been my issues with it. Heated seat cushions quit heating. The bottom cushions only, both sides. Drivers side door lock actuator failed. Drivers side vent duct actuator quit working causing it to blow warm out of the drivers side vents with the air-conditioner running in summer. Passenger side blew cold properly. I have had all the above fixed. The seat heaters and door lock actuator by my local dealer in 2017 for around $500.00 with partial help from GMC since I contacted them complaining. It was just out of warranty. They paid 40% of repair. The vent actuator i repaired myself this past summer since the local dealer wanted $1100.00 to replace it. I paid around $40.00 for the actuator and took me about an hour and a half labor. "There is a shortcut on YouTube on how to cheat and replace it in little time". All that I have mentioned above are common issues with their trucks starting in 2014 through about 2016 I've read. I am just waiting for the A/C condenser to start leaking Freon or the vacuum pump to go out which are other issues. Ha. There is my experiences so far if it helps anyone.

I didn’t hesitate on buying a 48k mile ‘15 Sierra WITH a 4/48 comprehensive warranty.  Frame rust and all. No ragrets yet

The 2010 I was looking at was worse in person. A couple other options arose - a 2015 Silverado 1500 lt crew 4x4 with 40k for $33k - is the 2015 much different than the 2014? Any of the first year bugs worked out? And the other option a 2011 crew 4x4 LT z71 with 40k original owner miles with a bunch of extras installed - tow mirrors, aftermarket tires/rims, leveling kit, etc - very nice rust free truck for $25k.

Some small changes that helped. The fitting type on cooler hoses was changed to a more reliable design. A small piece of foil was applied to the radiator fin area at the water inlet and the thermostat bypass was changed to limit thermal cycling that was cracking radiator tanks. Stuff like that....

With this one being private party sale - is there a way to check history by vin number for free? If not, is it worth paying the fee to check and if so, what one is best? Autocheck, carfax?

I don't think a free VIN check would provide much detail. For the reasons I stated in the other thread you started,  https://www.autocheck.com/vehiclehistory/vehicle-history-reports had more information than Carfax. Although it wouldn't hurt to do both. Spending a few bucks now could save you a several thousand dollar mistake. It obviously cant tell you if a potential serious breakdown is going to happen but you can at least know what has and hasn't happened or been done.
