Here's what GM has to say:

Diesel Fuel Additives – TechLink (gm-techlink.com)

Typically, a good source of diesel will have good quality diesel.  Top Tier diesel is your best bet for being treated good right from the pump.

There are 2  different schools of thought about additives and water. removal in diesel fuels.  Go's without saying no one wants organometallic additives anymore in after-treated common rail DI diesels.

GM diesels are detroit diesel centric in ideology and design.  No OEM wants want water or additives that allow water to be carried into the cylinder at any level.  Some are more concerned about emulsification.

1) allow the fuel filter and water separator do its job because its that efficient or we tell you to change the fuel filter often enough we don't worry about water emulsification for this design.

2)  Remove all the water before emulsification because we want the fuel filter and separator life to be less a drag on the consumer or operator.  Detroit and GM are in this camp.

Its Cummins but its informative and disclaimer I retired in 2014 so I am not pumping Cummins.  I am a GM  Trail Boss man now.....LOL

When I had a '01 LB7 Duramax I would run additives since that engines injectors were designed to have the Sulphur in the diesel fuel. The ULSD was hard on the injectors. I would put the additive in before filling. I assumed the filling would mix the additive in. I had the same thought that just adding it to the top wouldn't mix it well enough.

With my 3.0 I don't run any additive in the fuel. My brother doesn't either with his 6.6 LML or his 6.6 L5P either. This is my second 3.0 and I've not had any issues not running an additive. I keep the tank full in the winter and always get fuel at a station that has a high turnover rate. Keeping the tank full will help eliminate the condensation inside the tank.

Cool you worked for Cummins in Columbus. I'm about 50 minutes from there and have several family members who worked/retired from there.

Thanks For the input, Im kinda leaning towards the "Stanadyne Performance Formula Diesel Fuel Additive " ordered, Or the "Amsoil All in One".   ...Currently using the "Hotshot Everyday Diesel"  They both say does not contain any metal-based additives, alcohol or other water emulsifiers that may compromise the water removal effectiveness of the fuel filtering system. so they say?

Stanadyne-PRODUCT BENEFITS:
Restores/Increase Horsepower – detergents clean deposits in the injection system resulting in improved combustion, better acceleration, power, and torque
Reduces Fuel Consumption – independent tests show an average of 4% improvement in MPG and gains up to 9.6%
Cetane Improver – improves combustion resulting in better engine starting, smooth running, and reduced engine noise
Meets all engine fuel system requirements and will not harm exhaust aftertreatment systems
Reduces Emissions – reduces Smoke and Particulates
Cleans and Protects – detergents and deposit modifiers help protect injection pumps, injectors, nozzles, etc.
Reduces Wear – lubricity improvers restore lubricity to ultra low sulfur and other low lubricity diesel fuels
Stabilizes Fuel -keeps fuel fresher and protects against formations of gums caused by oxidation
Cold Weather Protection – improves diesel pour point up to 40°F (22°C), and cold filter plug point by up to 25°F (13°C), depending on base fuel
Corrosion Preventative – Corrosion inhibiters will protect the fuel system from rust and corrosion
Helps Remove Water – special demulsifiers cause tiny water droplets to come out of suspension/emulsion, so the filter/separator can more effectively remove water
Contains No Alcohol – avoids corrosion and accelerated wear
Specially Formulated for use with ultra low sulfur diesel fuel
Can be used with Bio Diesel Fuel up to B20 (20% bio content approved)

Amsoil All In One- Diesel All-In-One All-season protection and performance AMSOIL Diesel All-In-One (ADB) combines the superior detergency and improved lubricity of AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean, the excellent cold-flow and anti-gelling properties of AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow and the increased horsepower and cetane of AMSOIL Cetane Boost in one convenient package, providing the full potency and benefits of all three products. It is safe for use in all diesel fuels, including biodiesel. Diesel All-In-One is specially engineered to provide exceptional all-season protection for a serious performance boost. One dose delivers outstanding detergency, improved lubricity, better cold flow and higher cetane. Restores Horsepower & Improves Fuel Economy Fuel injector deposits interrupt spray patterns, causing poor fuel atomization, incomplete combustion, excessive emissions and smoke. High-pressure common-rail fuel systems are common as vehicle manufacturers attempt to produce more power while still meeting tightening emissions standards. In high-pressure common-rail systems, injection pressures can be 30,000 psi and higher to atomize the fuel into a fine mist for more efficient combustion, yielding increased power and fuel economy while reducing emissions. To maintain these high pressures, injector assemblies are highly engineered, with clearances as tight as 1-3 microns (a human hair is typically 70-100 microns thick). Even minimal internal diesel injector deposits on the injector pintal or other components can lead to sticking and even seizure, reducing power, fuel economy and operability. Traditional additive chemistry is not designed to address these tough-to-remove deposits. Diesel All-In-One features advanced chemistry that delivers concentrated strength to target internal diesel injector deposits and traditional carbonaceous deposits, helping to restore horsepower and operability to like-new condition. Acceleration is improved and, with regular use, Diesel All-In-One continues to enhance performance by keeping injectors clean. The net savings on fuel can result in no additional cost of ownership. Lubricates Pumps & Injectors to Reduce Wear Ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) provides significantly reduced lubricity – a critical property in controlling wear in fuel pumps and injectors. Diesel All-In-One adds the lubricity the fuel pump and injectors need, reducing wear, improving service life and saving time and money on maintenance costs. Improves Fuel Quality for Peak Performance Fuel with a higher cetane number provides for a more complete burn, resulting in improved performance. By increasing cetane, Diesel All-In-One improves the ignition quality of diesel fuel, maximizing available power and improving starting. It also smooths idle and reduces smoke and emissions. Helps Prevent Gelling As the temperature drops, the wax naturally found in diesel fuel begins to crystallize. The point at which wax crystals form is known as the cloud point. These wax crystals eventually clog the fuel filter and starve the engine of fuel, preventing it from starting. While low-quality fuels may form wax crystals in temperatures as warm as 40ºF (4ºC), most fuels have a cloud point near 32ºF (0ºC). The point at which the crystals clog the fuel filter is known as the cold filter-plugging point (CFPP). Diesel All-In-One lowers the CFPP by up to 40ºF (22ºC) in ULSD.

Hot Shot-Hot Shot's Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT) provides performance-boosting daily care for your engine, with a cetane booster that delivers a range of benefits, from increased power to a decreased number of DPF regen cycles. This 16-ounce diesel fuel additive treats up to 400 gallons, and maintains clean injectors, adds lubrication, neutralizes acids and keeps rust and corrosion at bay. All of this adds up to an engine that performs better, uses less fuel and lasts longer.EDT includes several different components:Cetane booster uses special nitrates to speed up the combustion process for more power and mileage up to 7 points.Add lubricity and protect expensive fuel system components with infused LX4 Lubricity Extreme formulation.Keep your injectors spraying efficiently with a keep-clean level of injector cleaner.Corrosion inhibitor forms a protective film on the metal surfaces of an engine and neutralizes acids.Demulsifier takes care of condensed moisture and disperses it. If moisture is not dispersed, the condensed water can cause rust, ice or microbiological growth.Stabilizers keep your fuel in good shape even if it sits for extended periods of time.EDT is a completely ashless formula, creating no adverse effects on the engine and complying with federal requirements for low sulfur content.Hot Shot's Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment can treat 400 gallons of fuel as a premium dose, and 200 gallons of fuel as a performance dose. Use EDT daily or during every fill-up with the convenient squeeze bottle. It is a great choice for any diesel engine, including:Agricultural equipment, Construction equipment Diesel, vehicles Diesel marine vehicles,Racing vehicles,RVs,Semi-trucks,Small engines

Does the EDT contain any alcohol or metals?
A: No, neither alcohol nor metals. Thanks!

Ok so your on your 2nd 3.0? Just curious how many miles on the first and why a 2nd one?

Thanks again for the input

My first one was a 2020 RST that my previous employer purchased for me in October 2020. When I moved to a new company in September 2021 I had to turn that truck back in. When I turned it in, it had 41,****** miles on it (got it with 150 miles on it). I had zero issues out of it.

I liked that truck so much that I went hunting for another just like it only in a LTZ or SLT trim level. Unfortunately finding a truck that I wanted in September 2021 was not exactly easy. Luckily my buddy is a GMC salesman and knew they had the 2021 AT4 with the 3.0 coming in. I picked it up the same day it drove off the delivery truck. I've had ZERO issues with this truck. It has had 1 crank no start in the 5,2xx miles that I've driven it.

Depending on how the market does and how hard it is to get a truck in 2023, I will probably trade this one in on a refreshed GMC that will have the 3.0 in it as well.

Ok Very cool, Nice to hear no troubles. Almost same here, 2021 RST,4x4,crew,3.0, had the crank no start Approx 1 time every 1k miles, till I got reflash, all good since, 1/2 sec longer crank time. would love to know what the reflash changed?

Thanks again for all provided, good luck
