Lifter Failure 6.2

Hey guys. A few lifters failed on the left bank resulting in bent pushrods. I poked around on the site and didn't find much on this issue. I assume that this is not a common issue. Truck is 5.5 years old with 170,000km (105,000 miles) on it. Unfortunately for me, this has led to a costly repair. Anyone else had a similar problem? The truck was not being beat on when this happened and I haven't ever really beat on it hard. I was hoping to make it a few more years before replacing the truck, and after looking online (seems I can't build one w/o heated seats unless its a Denali) I think I may be forced to keep it for a while longer. I know some will scoff at the heated seats, but If I'm spending 70K+ on a truck, it will have the comforts.

 

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see what the buildup is like on the intake valves.

You are not the only one.  Far from it.  Tons of posts around here.

 

You can order heated seats but due to the chip shortage, GM is retrofitting them into trucks.  So the truck will have most all the pieces in there for heated seats just not switches or control modules to make it work.  When they get the parts, they are doing installs to make them work free of charge.

Considering the low mileage you have.  At least to me it is low. I would elect to do a AFM delete  and just replace the lifters and cam to a non AFM set up and have AFM deactivated.  This would get you a long life with that engine as long as all the regular maintenance is kept up with.  You already know what you have and more than likely it is paid off.  So for the small cost compared to what new vehicles are going for you would be way ahead.

Have you been under a rock since 2007? Lifter failures have been present even since like 2005's when they first started using the DoD lifters. I'm just pulling your chain but I don't think you looked hard enough to find all the other people with this problem lol.

I haven't been to this site in a bit. The search function used to suck. I didn't even use it, my bad.  Maybe I'll try an OBD2 plug in disabler.

Fun update:

 

They had to replace the lifters on the left side, 1 pushrod, guide and rocker. Changed fluids etc. Bill came in  at $3200 ($2500-ish USD)  before taxes. Oddly, the truck feels much stronger now so it makes me think that the loss of power/something isn't quite right feeling that I noticed in the late summer may have been related. Who knows.

 

The tech neglected to take pictures of the intake valves as I was curious if I should have installed a catch can years ago. He said that they looked pretty clean with little build up noted.

 

Anyways, happy to have my truck back as it is a little too soon to trade this one in. Cheers.

My 2017 6.2L V8 (L86) Sierra with 44k miles threw ODB2 codes of P050D and Cylinder 4 misfire.  Which led to spend a ton of time studying this damn engine. Thought for sure it was Carbon fiber build up due to direct injection and would require replacing fuel injectors and high pressure fuel lines. Thought about doing the job myself since the bumper to bumper was expired and learning that this fix was not included in the powertrain warranty. However I took it to a dealer, agreed to pay the $160 diagnostic fee to make sure.  I waited 3 days and got more mad by the second about this engine. Finally they called and it turns out it was the “Lifter and Pushrod “ Issue that’s well covered on the forum. The good news was that is covered under the powertrain warranty and I have 6 month left before it expired!  I told them that after they got the engine running again to clean the fuel injectors ($165).
 

Now I want to find out what is the best catch can out there for this engine.

same problem here.  $6200 repair for lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, cylinder head.  they suggest replacing motor.  $8200

Class action lawsuit.  Knowly sold faulty full management lifters.

Simply because idling, especially cold idling, an engine is godawful for it and anything running of hydraulic pressure (lifters), so my SWAG is there is a direct relationship between remote start frequency/duration and lifter failure, outside of the recalled parts.
