Air filter on GM Performance upgrade package

Recommended Posts

As I don't own one, I can only guess.. But I believe its safe to say it will be like most other performance filters oiled/non-oiled, "clean it when its dirty".

Or you can blow it out with compressed air once a month and call it good.

That said.. Does GM even have a cleaning kit for filters?

How often should you change or clean the air filter on trucks with the performance upgrade package?

Somewhere in the paperwork that came with mine it said replace the filter at 20,000 miles. Since the filters are kinda pricey, I plan on seeing if I can just knock off any loose particles and maybe gently blow out other dirt from the inside of the filter.

Anacortes Army Guy is correct.  Every 20,000 miles.  Just confirmed with my dealer last week when I took my truck in for the 22,500 service.  I see no harm in doing it at 22,500 miles.  It just makes the schedule a little easier to follow.

Dealer wanted $123 for the filter.  I found it on RockAuto.com for $49.75 plus shipping and tax.  Brought the total price to about $60.

I got my truck back from the dealer last night, and changed the air filter this afternoon.  I am keeping the old one hoping I can recharge it instead of replacing it.  I read somewhere K&N was involved in making the GMP CAI, and the filter looks like a K&N filter.  Does anybody know if a K&N recharge kit will work on these filters?

Does it still have the air filter minder functioning?

Sort of.  During install your instructed to go into the DIC settings and turn that off.  You could leave it running, theoretically.  I don't know if it'll affect anything.
