3.0 Duramax Delete

Hello, 

 

I have a 21 with the 3.0 Duramax and so far am very happy with it other than the occasional crank no start that others have experienced. I've found very little info on if they're able to be def deleted and tuned or if anyone has done so with luck? I'm only at ~16500 miles and wouldn't want to do anything prior to my warranty being expired but assuming it's a reliable motor and be a long term vehicle, I would consider it with the hopes it would improve efficiency, performance, and sound better. 

 

I'm new to the diesel world and know very little about this so more of a curiosity question than anything. Any info or insight is much appreciated.

Take it for the programming update to get the crank timeout / no start corrected.

There are still no real tuning solutions for these engines and since this is the case, no way to do a def delete yet. You've got a long way to go before your warranty is up!

I was under the impression I had a 3 year/36K bumper to bumper warranty and that the 5 year/60K was optional. Am I wrong or is there a specific powertrain warranty I'm not aware of? If so great, but on Chevy's website I only see this and looks like it only applies to 2020 models.

The drivetrain is covered to 100k miles on the Duramax's

You should have a diesel supplement to your owners manual.  The diesel has a 6yr 100k powertrain warranty if I remember correctly.

No deletes for the 3.0.

 

Bumper to bumper is 3yr/36K, powertrain is 5yr/100K.

If you’re looking for something that will change the way your truck responds I would look into getting a banks pedal

monster. I just installed one on my 3.0 and I really enjoy the results. Install was about 10 minutes there are plenty of YouTube videos on it. This module is not a tuner that gives you more performance but it does change the throttle response and you can adjust it to your specs. I found that the Duramax lacks a bit on instant power that I would like and this module takes care of that. Banks also claims the module doesn’t leave a foot print so you can disconnect it when you have to take a trip to the dealer for any repairs. Banks is also developing an actual tuner for our 3.0’s and you will be able to stack both mods without any problems. Hope this helps GL

This does not correct the issue. I took mine in this past Tuesday (1/25/22) for PIP5823B Intermittent Extended Crank No Start. Then 4 days later it did it again. Those of you have have had the shim installed, did that correct the issue? Or has anyone else had this update performed and still had the issue?

Going by what my dealer told me, they have to check the integrity of the wiring harness and would need to keep the truck for 2 days to accomplish this task. I don't know how factual this is, but that is what I was told by the service advisor. I will be trading my truck in for a refreshed 22 diesel, so I will let them accomplish that task once I receive my new truck.

They don't have to spend two days checking the harness before applying the update. 

(maybe I misunderstood what you're telling us)

 

Mine was in for something else today and the did the update while it was there.

Less than an hour total. 

 

Perhaps extended diagnosis if it it does crank/no-start after the update?  

If one is still doing and has already had the update, then that could require more diagnostics. 

 

Most have reported programming update corrected the problem. 

 

 

Otoh, it wouldn't be the first time a service adviser was wrong about what the techs do / need to do.

I order a 3.0 duramax in 2019 and i was one of the first to get my hands on and i drive 100k a year no problem, right now i have 156k and had no issue whats so ever the whole time, except now its in the shop and waiting for timing chain and belt parts, crank chain was streatched about an inch" dealer says its from using old oil, who in the crazy world would use old oil? I ask the dealer, i told them to pull up my history purchases and look for oil change records, all done by the same dealer, BANG back fire no longer was the issue of old oil, so warrenty is fixing the whole nine yards,

My truck was absolutely fine until 156k as well. Has been at the dealership for 1 month now waiting for the exact same parts.

Any vehicle I purchased new goes to the dealership for maintenance. They can’t pull out the excuse book it’s all on the record. You don’t have to do everything they try to up sell, just get familiar with the manual. Some people say they have a kid doing oil changes. Well he does more oil changes in one week than most people do in a lifetime. I’ve been using the same couple of dealerships for 30 years. Sometimes spending a few more dollars, it’s paid off in the long run.
