2500 HD 6.0L Stock Muffler

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 2009 2500 HD 6.0L WT (single cab, 8ft bed) this past spring. The muffler is on its last leg. I took it to my local mechanic to have it replaced. We spoke on the phone after he looked at it and gave me a price. Some time later he called me back and said he was unable to find a replacement muffler. All his tools he had at his disposal showed the stock muffler only had 1 intake and 1 outlet.

My truck has 2 intakes into the muffler and 1 outlet. I checked https://www.gmpartsonline.net/v-2008-chevrolet-silverado-2500-hd--ltz--6-0l-v8-gas/exhaust-system--exhaust-components and it does show 1 inlet and 1 outlet. Do I have a nonstock setup? I have searched this forum and others appear to have mufflers /w 2 inlets and 1 outlet so perhaps my mechanic just doesn't want to deal with it.

Just looking to confirm what I have and what I parts I need for my local muffler shop to get this taken care of.

Thanks! Sorry if this is covered in another post.

Yeah that sounds like a non-stock set up.

Just buy an aftermarket muffler and have it welded in whatever your guy thinks will be the quietest.

Just noticed you said mechanic, do you mean exhaust shop?

Well my local mechanic looked at it. I am going to take it to a dedicated muffler/exhaust shop tomorrow. I did find this:

https://www.gmpartsonline.net/v-2007-chevrolet-silverado-2500-hd-classic--wt--6-0l-v8-gas/exhaust-system--exhaust-components

that references a duel intake muffler https://www.gmpartsonline.net/oem-parts/gm-muffler-and-pipe-25929098?c=Zz1leGhhdXN0LXN5c3RlbSZzPWV4aGF1c3QtY29tcG9uZW50cyZsPTcmbj1Bc3NlbWJsaWVzIFBhZ2UmYT1jaGV2cm9sZXQmbz1zaWx2ZXJhZG8tMjUwMC1oZC1jbGFzc2ljJnk9MjAwNyZ0PXd0JmU9Ni0wbC12OC1nYXM%3D

Guess ill just hang out and see what the exhaust show has to say.

thanks for the reply

Is your truck have RPO code ZW9 box delete by chance?  If it was born with a pickup box, it would have the cat y-pipe and then be single in single out the rest of the exhaust.  If it was born ZW9 box delete, its individual cat pipes for left and right bank, then dual in single out for the rest.

The first link you posted is for 2007 classic.  Totally different exhaust.  The second one is no good either.

I'd open your glovebox and look at the RPO label.  If you see ZW9, its factory bed delete and the dual exhaust.  If you see E63, its factory built as a pickup with bed and should have the single exhaust.

With factory box delete:
