Read a lot about Lifter issues...

Recommended Posts

I see a lot of rumblings about the lifter issues in the newer trucks. My question.. these trucks come with a base 36K/3yr warranty + 60K/5yr powertrain. I assume any lifter/motor issues would be covered under the 60K/5yr part correct?  The basic 36K is about to run out on my 2019 - all has been great with the truck, but wanted to make sure I still have engine coverage for a while longer..

Correct, the engine is covered under the 5 year/60k powertrain warranty. If, or more likely when (unfortunately), you run into issues, negotiate extended component coverage on the engine. That's what we did after our lifter failure so the engine has 6 years/100,000 miles.

I don't think the warranty really helps us when they make repairs using faulty replacement parts.

Also correct, unfortunately. I've been daydreaming about getting an independent shop to swap in a built iron block 5.3 LS motor into our truck from the 1999-2006 non-AFM era along with a Gearstar Stage 3 4l80e transmission, but more than likely I'll end up trading it in for something else before the warranty runs out.... something that doesn't have cylinder deactivation.... anything...

    Ramblings?

You wanted to check with us to confirm that your warranty would cover something?

Its always best to check the forums. If for some reason the dealer doesn't cover the repairs under warranty, just tell them that the people in the forums said that it is supposed to be covered, and they will go 'click click click' on the computer to fix the problem with your repair bill.
