Leaked new EV Silverado

Recommended Posts

GM has a habit of choosing an high profit vehicle versus a popular one. The Avalanche was very popular as was the impala, caprice rear drive. Through advertising trucks took the lead. A real profit maker. There’re banking regulations will do that for electric vehicles. The problem is election’s change things. Interesting times.

Battery electric, as we know it today certainly isn't for everyone but there seems to be a market.

Ford was planning to build something like 100,000 the first year -- and decided to cut-off pre-orders at 200,000 units. Out of near say 900,000 million ford trucks those are no where near 'replacing' internal combustion unit's, but even 100,000 is more than the annual sales of many car platforms

Yes, pre-orders aren't sales. Yes, lots will be folks hoping to flip one.  But it's still a lot of units.

I'll be interesting to see how they perform in the market and how they are able to improve the range for those than can't work with the ranges we currently hear about.

My kid played baseball this fall with another kid whose dad works at Rivian.  I spoke to him about hydrogen.  He said they looked into it and it's not happening.  I'll settle for a diesel electric hybrid, like a train.  Being a military family that moves every 3 years, plug in electric is a no go.  Not enough range.  I don't think I'll be satisfied until electric trucks can get 700 miles without a trailer.  Towing would cut that down to 250-300 miles.  Then I'll be ready to buy one.

Yea EV companies won't invite hydrogen at all, but I think the long standing automakers would if/when people realize it's actually better than EV if we can use it as we used gas and diesel ICE's. Who knows though, what is best for the customer and what is most profitable can be hard to reconcile in the auto industry these days. Always been a problem to reconcile what is best for the environment and what is profitable when it comes to most industries, too.

The whole aspect of charge times and being predisposed to a certain range are the real shortcomings I see with EV, so hybrids of any sort seem like the better option. Until they make batteries for EV you can just hotswap that is, but that would probably be especially expensive. I'm sure these EV trucks will be nice, I just don't find them compelling for my lifestyle or truck needs.

Hmm, EV to EV charging. Guess if you are running low battery life, just "siphon" some juice from a Prius at the Safeway parking lot🤔😬

They were talking about EV's this morning on the local talk show, and one of the gentlemen had a great point.

What happens if you are stuck on one of mountain passes, sitting for hours "idling" with the heat going and your battery dies? Who is quilified, or how do you jump start the EV to get going again?

I have no idea, mainly because of no disire to own one, so have done zero research on EV's.

Anybody else notice the quick little comment about a Trail Boss EV Silverado?  That'll be interesting.  I'm not a fan of the new Avalanched Silverado, but if you held a gun to my kids heads and told me to pick an EV or they die if pick the new Silverado.  No point in holding a gun to my head, lol.  I wouldn't pick an EV in that scenario.

Get to the top and coast downhill while dragging the brakes.  Brakes have regenerative charging.

The more I look at the pictures on Motortrend, I don't like it! The front end is too busy. They should have made it look like the refresh Silverado. I do like the Avalanche style back end! Very nice touch. The inside is ok, but the cheap looking buttons/climate control knobs underneath the HUGE screen looks wacky!!  Otherwise interior flows very well!
