Park rev limiter

Recommended Posts

All of you replied yet none of you have an answer or even close to a response to his question. He didn't ask for criticism nor anything else negative. If he wants to purposefully blow his engine up thats his own issue. I do not think however, that blowing his engine up is his goal. He simply just wants the truck to be able to rev past 3k so he can hear (assuming he has exhaust) his truck. Nothing wrong with that especially if he doesn't do it often. To answer his question though, maybe someone like Edge has something similar to the Pulsar who can remove the rev limiter like the speed limiter. I haven't really looked for anything specific but thats where I'd start.

The question was answered by Newdude.  You must've missed it.

Newdude gave piston slap a fancy name and criticized the OP. It's valve float that's a concern when there's no load on the engine. Hence the limiter, otherwise your buying a new engine.

As Shakespeare wrote in Romeo & Juliette, "A rose by any other name...."  If the OP wishes to be a fool, so be it.  It's his truck.  And, if valve float without a load is such an issue, why isn't the Camaro SS with a manual trans not restricted in the same manner?

Had no idea this forum became a drama page so quickly.  I am not going to blow up my engine, revving it up to 4.5k or so to hear some clapping every blue moon wont hurt a thing.

Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliette was quoted here, so it is definitely a forum where drama plays out.  And, this forum is much softer than GM Fullsize.  Gotta have a thick skin to be over there.

It is. There's a parked/neutral rev limit and a moving rev limit (while in neutral).

Reving without load isn't good for ANY of the engine. But valve float can be catastrophic. This is not the same as brake trading etc. In that case the engine is under load, and your stressing the converter/trans and heating up the fluid.

Camaro6 says, the auto and manual trans have the same limit as my truck. 4k?

Any camaro owners here?

Ok guys, my younger days to make a showing or making a fool out of myself. True duals glass packs shorties. Stick or automatic. When pulling up to where you want to get noticed. Drop in first mat it back off. Can’t be beat.

No reving it in park is just something a lot of trucks with exhaust do- “beating the box” is bouncing it off the rev limiter in park or neutral

And that right there is why GM implemented the 3500 rpm rev limiter.  Keep on keeping on, it doesn't bother me one bit, but dang, not a lot of foresight in todays youth.
