It’s going to make your stomach turn watching the video I’m attaching. My brothers 2021 GMC Denali 2500 HD stolen at a Houston hotel in 3 minutes.

update- after the theft they drove it a few miles away. Stripped the fleet GPS tracking system and disabled ONSTAR.

They used the same equipment dealerships have (bought from china). Connect wirelessly, start it, and you drive away.. Best defense is an aftermarket alarm.

happens with all makes and models.

I’d like to know how you have any idea what the thief had to steal it? GM/Delphi systems are not your average open programming. It’s not wireless at a single GM dealer in the US.

I'm not in the US. And the information I stated was provided by my local police department (on the news), along with video footage capturing a vehicle being stolen right off someone's driveway.

I'd like to know, how you know there's not ONE single wireless system in the US? If this is true GM should have made their trucks as secure as their delphi systems. Wait... They are! You can't just break into a vehicle and steal it anymore.

Really?

I don't have the privilege of having access to the same information the investigators did.

But I can tell you the video showed the thieves standing beside the vehicle. One of them was focusing on a thick tablet he was holding. The doors unlocked, they got in. The vehicle started and they drove away. This didn't happen quick like they had a key, it took longer.

How law enforcement determined exactly what they did. Or how they knew the device came from China, I don't know.

I'm doing some mind reading now... If your flustered because we were informed the device came from China... You may be thinking this is racist, or possibly targeted misinformation? In which case your wrong and ignorant. Acting on emotion instead of logic.

I shared my experience. To be upset with me is ilogical. Take it up with the Calgary police department and stop trying to defame me or what I've said.

Why would I be upset? Don’t pretty much 100% of electronics come from China? It is known and has been that a thief can listen for the fob inside a house with a tablet or whatever. Replicate the signal and do exactly what they did.
How this happened at a hotel so easily the first night it had ever been parked there. How they apparently hacked the truck from the ODB port (cycling the power), second location to search and strip It of GPS tracking, bypassing GM lockouts that make the dealer contact corporate with a code to flash the BCM like turning off the idle timer on new vehicles with a fob.
GM doesn’t let the techs reprogram tires size, TPMS, fuel tank size, or many simple functions.

Great, like I said. I can only share what information I have available to me. You don't have to like it, you can hate it! But that doesn't change anything.

What you can do is state who you are, what you know, and how you know what criminal organizations can or can't do.

It's fantastic that your... somebody who knows all the inner workings of gm. But I don't think dealerships or techs ave started an auto theft ring. And are running around using approved diagnostic equipment.

I apologize, but in retrospect it is nice to know there is a simple way to defeat any features or add on a GM.

Case in point why no one should ever "personalize" a vehicle. Peeps are attracted to options like the onboard garage door opener and what not but that is just inviting problems when the owner in no longer in control. Any personal info (registration, insurance info, etc) should follow the owner everytime the vehicle is left unattended.

I've had TPMS set pressures changed, by the dealer, on a 2018 2500. diesel.

I watched on the laptop screen as it was being done. It was a quick and simple task.

Not sure if it is possible on a '21.

At the time I had mine done the 'internet' was full of threads saying it couldn't be done; and/or posts about dealers saying they wouldn't do it for 'liability' reasons.

Set pressure for the vehicle will depend on which tires it was 'born' with... so there has to be a way to change it.

In '18 it was simple.  As above, I don't know about '21.

The revised 'set' pressures showed up on the phone app as the new 'recommended' pressure.
