The 3.73 is a 3.0 exclusive. On the diesel max trailering package and the diesel off road package. Not sure if the diesel off road package is going to be available again, I didn’t see it in a quick glance of the order guide.

Good to know thanks for that.  Diesels like to pull on a gear!

Very disappointed I can’t order a Ltz with Max tow and get skid plates and hill descent control with diesel. I guess Gm thinks you would never unhook the trailer and go offroad! What a bunch of clueless aholes! By the way way , I am mainly interested in the 3.73 that is why I want max tow.

That's because you can't combine NHT with Z71.  You never could either, even since NHT came out back in the 07-13 trucks.

Chevy is definitely going down a bad road, what kind of management decides to make a 4 cylinder engine their stock engine for their best selling truck (custom trail boss)? Morons....

They have to put something on paper to keep Grandpa Joe and his merry band of tree huggers happy!

Uh.  Custom TB isn't their best selling trim level.  LT, RST and LT Trail Boss are the top movers.  Guess what the standard engine for those is?  2.7T.

The 2.7T is every ounce as strong as the 5.3, actually drives a tad better because GM set up its power band like a diesel engine.  Torque all day long.  The current one has 99% equal performance 0-60 and 1/4 mile as a 2014-2018 5.3 6 speed per actual tested data.

Both tests done with a crew cab 4x4 below:

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L 4x4 Crew Cab Tested (caranddriver.com)

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Four-Cylinder First Test: Quicker Than Some V-6s (motortrend.com)

Now yes, its an almost 600lbs weight loss vs a 2014 5.3.  And the 2022 updated 2.7T will have 420tq.

Driven 3 or 4.  Its a great little engine.  I've got my eyes on a diesel again, but I wouldn't hesitate on the 2.7T.  More reliable than the 5.3 as of late LOL.  And it can tow the same weight.  And its got 3.42 gearing with the 8 speed.

I'm curious as to how the added torque drives on the updated one.  Plus its got an even stronger bottom end.  I'm thinking they will get it within a couple 10ths of the current 5.3 in terms of times.  Car and Driver pulled a 6 second flat to 60mph, 14.7 1/4 mile.  If the 2.7T HO gets into the low 6s, that would be sweet and knocking right on the 5.3 and the 2.7 Ecoboost.

Either way to me, its by far the strongest base engine of any of the big 3.  The HO is still 310hp but 420tq.  Its every ounce as powerful as the 2.7 Ecoboost from Ford and that is on 2 more cylinders and another turbo.  And to think the 2.7 Ecoboost is the 5.3's competitor?  The 3.6 from Ram and the 3.3 from Ford are there for the fleet queens.  Ram only has the Hemi going for them, Ford has some strong options.

Does anyone know if the refresh includes new seats?

That I've been able to tell, they are the same.  Doesn't mean they didn't change something though about them like say different seat foam, won't know until they start production.

Does anyone know when we can place an order?  Dealer is telling me end of January/Feb.  Seems late from what I would have expected.

Dealers can configure a truck but no pricing 12/15.  The first Dealer Order Submission Process (order cycle) starts 12/16 with some pricing.  Full pricing goes live on the dealer's order workbench 1/5.  So a dealer should be able to spec out a truck and get an order started 12/16, and then when they get their allocation, submit the order for you.
