DL3 Folding Mirror Problem

Recommended Posts

My passenger side power fold mirror has always given me trouble as sometimes it won't fold. Usually some lubricating grease does the trick. Yesterday it did it again and now it does not fold out or fold in and "click" into position. It is loose, any idea if there's a way to get into it to see where the problem is if I remove it? Are there serviceable parts available or should I just get a used replacement?

Thanks in advance.

The teeth on the plastic gear have probaly broken off, they make this metal replacment.

Great thing about the folding mirrors:
I was squeezing through a tight spot in town one day, as I attempted to make the squeeze, the truck next to me folded in his mirror so I could pass next to him.
I thought, well, first off, thanks!, next thing was, heck, I gotta get that mod! :D
Also, it would be great for the bank drive-through without rolling down the window and physically pulling in the mirror ... well, ya still gotta roll down the window to make the transaction, but, even so, i could retract both! :)

I tend to fold them often when using a drive thru ATM and getting in and out of my garage. I'll look at buying a new one and maybe tinker with this one when I have it apart to try and get it fixed with the replacement gear.
