Intermittent Shudder at 1000 to 1700 rpm

Recommended Posts

In need of some advice. So A week ago I noticed a what I thought was a miss. Turns out definitely not a miss but a shudder. 2014 5.3 with 6l80 and 120000 miles. I'm thinking this is torque converter related????? Will a flush help? Or do I bite the bullet and replace whole tranny? Oh also trans has been shifting ok. Once in a while I will get a hard down shift. This literally just happened over night. I have tried shudder gone stuff in red tube. I did filter and 6 quarts new fluid about 18 months ago roughly 30000 miles. Any advice/ help would be much appreciated. Basically do I spend the 350 for flush or 3 grand for new trans and torque converter?

my truck makes a moaning sound at the very same rpms as yours. started about 20k miles ago, i am at 150k now and it still going, also get a harsh down shift every once in a while. i know it is a time bomb about to blow, but at this mileage i am sure the tranny is full of crap from the torque converter so i wont waste my time flushing. also a 2014 with the 6 speed

Sounds like the same problem I was experiencing with the 8 speed transmission. The dealership flushed the transmission in (TSB 18-NA-355). This seemed to help the shifting and shuddering. As far as paying for the flush or a new transmission, I would try the flush first.

That seems to be a pretty common thing with our transmissions. Mine does it too. I would have to imagine that its a tuning issue. Have you had your TCM tuned?

  • 1 month later...

it could be the TCC o-ring is not sealing anymore, they usually start cracking and shrinking due to all the heat on the pump stator

try adding the prescribed amount of transmission seal conditioner as a last resort,  other than this have a trans tuner remove the tcc function in gears 1-4th
