Side Steps

Recommended Posts

Looking to put a set of steps on a '04 CC HD, I've been looking at the Westin's and the GM ones, looking for something that does not hang down too low and does not require any drilling. Any recommendations on a good set, probably looking at chrome or the chromed SS ones. Also, how hard are they to install, I'd think if they are bolt on that it should be real easy...but is it a one man job or two? Thanks!

I have the Westin Oval Tubes on my truck... They are chrome plated Aluminum.

Unfortunatly I'm on my second set right now, and they will have to be replaced again this spring. Appearantly both sets I got were early production runs and have pitted.

Thank goodness that Westin has great Customer Service... I expect they will easily replace this set too...

They are great looking steps!!!

I have Smittybuilt wheel to wheel bars on my HD CC. Wasn't to fond of the W2W steps but these where shipped to me by mistake so I tried them first and the look grew on me. Really get a lot of comments on them. There is a pic in my sig if you want to see what they may look like on your truck.

I also went with the Westin Oval straight step. Took about 1 hour to install and very simple. You will probably need a friend to let you know they are straight. I hope that my bars do not pit....but from what I have heard Westin stands behind there products.

Happy shopping

I have Westin "Platinuim" (Stainless) and they hold up very well to Minnesota salted roads. Dealer installed them for me, but it's not a big job.

Do NOT get chrome plated ones if you live in a norther climate. You'll have to change them every year.

I've got the Platinum Series in black on my crew cab. They are holding up well to the sand and salt in New England. The only negative is that the plastic (or rubber) step seems to be to far forward for me. I always seem to step on the painted part.

Even where I step on the paint and have scratched the black paint pretty good, there is no rust or pitting so, they do hold up well.

Thanks for all the replies, don't have to worry too much about rust down south. Has anyone bought/installed a set of the GM Accessories units? I am starting to like the one big step instead of the two cutouts like in the Westins.

I have a set of GM's. So far so good. I have black powder coated.

I am a big guy and these a very sturdy.

I really like the one big step pad for the ext cab version. It always seemed to me that no matter were they put the two pads on the others, it was in the wrong spot.
