It's okay you'll understand that tone is better than loudness. Although I am in the same boat as you I wish my truck was louder and with a different muffler not just straight piped.

The tone is incredible

Getting my license in the 70s most people I knew had nice cars for first cars. Most of us started working after school and summers. There wasn’t much else to do. I started at 12 baling hay. My first two were new. 73 RX3, 74 barracuda. The second one had headers and a high rise the second weekend. Then I got married.

If you're looking for the best tone I recommend routing and dumping the exhaust inside your cab.  This will give you the best sound experience and also not annoy everybody else around you.

Better yet route it into the AC line 💀

We never drove these nice of vehicles in high school that's for sure.

I don't know about you, but some of the kids in my high school got BMW M3s, For Mustang Cobra, Volvo, Saab, etc.  I'd rate those has nicer than a Silverado.  My  oldest kid will be driving age in a few years.  I'm leaning towards a Tacoma for him.

I had a friend in high school that thought he got one over on his Dad when his Dad agreed to let him put duals and glass packs on the family car. Friend was bad about trying to sneak out or come home after curfew. No sneaking out after the exhaust hack. One night after he had been out on an early date he tried to "sneak" back home late by shutting off the engine uphill of the house and coasting down the driveway. The over rich condition caused by the duals dumped gas in the exhaust so when he shut the engine off it backfired and blew up one of the cherry bombs. Woke the whole neighborhood.

His Dad laughed hard every time he told that story.

When my friend bought his own car it was so quiet a Singer sewing machine made more noise.

Lesson learned.

Speaking of first vehicles.  Mine was a 1968 Impala Custom, 2 door with the 250hp 327 and turbo 400 transmission.  I paid $450 for it with 75k miles on it back in 1980.    My parents let me put duals on it.  I used what they had back then called a turbo muffler. Wasn't loud but not stock either.  I wasn't allow to put a Thrush muffler on it.  Anyone remember them?

Yep I had the Thrush with duel exhaust on my 75 Impala, 350 4bbl turbo 350 trans with a B&M shift kit. I believe it was the first year for the cats well it came off when the duels and headers were put on. If I remember right the hush thrush was the oval muffler and the thrush was the straight through muffler. Man I miss those days the 4bbl opened and the duels blowing out under the rear bumper. Nothing like the sweet sound of a 4bbl.

I believe I bought it in 1980 and I got it for 1500 bucks with something like 60,000 miles on it.

Quick story had a friend of mine one day in his 72 Chevelle in front of me as we got onto the highway off an entrance ramp he took off and I jumped to the middle lane running beside keeping up with him with just the 2bbl open as I could feel in the pedal where the 4bbl would open I let him have the 4bbl and walked past him, saw him the next day and he said "man I thought I had you till I heard the 4bbl open up.
