Tow mirrors question

Recommended Posts

I had tow mirrors installed on my 2014 1500 Silverado and when i put the truck in reverse I can’t turn on the reverse lights on the tow mirrors with the cargo lamp switch, when I push the switch nothing happens until I put the truck in park then they come on with the cargo lamp switch. My dad had tow mirrors put on his 2015 1500 Silverado and when you put his truck in reverse his cargo light switch will let you turn on the cargo lights and reverse lights on the tow mirrors. Is that how the 14’s are compared to the 15’s?

Welcome to the site.

Thinking they did not switch out the wiring harness for the correct one that goes with the tow mirrors.

@MikeBMWcould probably shed some light on this, as he has added the same(factory) mirrors to his truck.

Yep, when adding factory tow mirrors, a new door harness is necessary. Dealer did all of that so I have harnesses for stock mirrors as well as both original outside mirrors.
I, also, bought a harness from @pgamboa to have the tow mirror lights turn on with the turn signals.

I have read there are ways ro tap into the stock harness to make it it work but, even so, one would be missing some functionality such as tow mirror cams.

Straight from the OM, if you have problems getting the issues fixed.

Cargo Lamp The cargo lamp provides more light in the cargo area or on the sides of the vehicle, if needed. The lights inside the pickup box and/or on the outside rearview mirrors also turn on, if equipped. Press the switch down to turn the cargo lamp on or off. An indicator light will turn on when the lamp is turned on, if equipped. The shift lever must be in the P (Park) position to operate the cargo lamp. The lights on the outside rearview mirrors turn on if the shift lever is in the R (Reverse), N (Neutral), or P (Park) position.

What mirrors did you get?

Jim and Mike are right.

You need to add wires to your harness to make it work.

I just installed Boost Auto  Tow Mirrors and I had to add 4 wires to each harness.
