Rear Parking Assist question...

Recommended Posts

So I just replaced my damaged bumper with a newer takeoff and it went just well. I also had to swap out the parking assist sensors and harness into the replacement. That went OK as well. But when I plugged the harness back into the truck, it just didn't seem to seat all the way. I did notice that the parking assist seemed to be intermittent and when it did work, it didn't seem to be functioning correctly and the beeps were random. I didn't actually notice this issue until next day (yesterday). There were no error messages about it on the DIC. I had some stuff to take care of so I left it alone. Today, I had some free time so I decided to check it again. When trying to remove the red lock pin, it cracked and I won't be able to use it anymore. But I did push on the release clip and pull the connector apart. I seated and removed the connector several times and finally pushed it on and I heard the click as it fully seated. I tried it out by reversing towards a wall several times and it seems to now be working just fine.

But one thing that bothers me and I can't seem to recall if it's normal. I thought that before, whenever I would put truck in reverse, I could have sworn that the outline of the truck with several rows of semi circles below it would appear in the DIC. And then while reversing towards an object, the beeps would start and the semi circles would start changing colors the closer I got to an object. Now, that display doesn't show up unless there is an object behind me but if there is, it starts the beeping as well as the semi circle changing colors. If no object behind me, no parking assist display. So is this the normal function? Does it only appear if I back towards an object?
