2004 Allison Transmission

I did my first long tow with my new 04 and im dissapointed with the transmission timmings in the 04. I had an 02 allison and they were better.

What occurs is when im towing my trailer w/ cruise on and start to go up a hill, the 02 tranny would immeaditly shift out fo 5th to 4th. This would only let the truck loose about 2 mph tops. The new 04 will "dog it" in 5th up the hill until it looses about 6-7 MPH. Its really annoying that i have to shift the tranny manually out of O/D. If i wanted to shift the tranny, i would hae gotten the 6sp. Is there any way to correct this?

Are you sure it's got all the latest programming updates from GM? There could be one out there.

Yeah, somebody just told me in another thread that the 6.0 is a much stronger performer!

Was there a programming update for a 2003 Allison? If so how do you tell if you have it or not?
