AC blowing not blowing cold air

Recommended Posts

2015 Silverado High Country 1500 6.2

Problem 1: Last month my ace was just blowing warm air, not cold. Had my broinlaw helped recharged it with a 18 oz can. Gauge was showing LOW. After refilled, cold air came back normally.

Problem 2: Just today, the AC is blowing warm air again, I did look at the compressor and it is spinning with engine and ac on, which means theres still freons in the system. I also bought new can to recharge just to see if the gauge reads LOW, but when I pressed the trigger... it was showing RED (indicating something other than low or filled). I checked the AC radiator and like some youtubers said, there was a little spot on the side showing possibly leakage. But I don't understand why the gauge would still show that there is still pressure?

Question is why isnt' it blowing cold air while it is still freon in the system? Or could it be other major issues?

Thanks in advance!!

Maybe your condenser has failed? Very common problem on the early K2's and same year SUV's.

Sounds like you got one of those tall R134 can with trigger, guage and hose. Those guage is garbage. Measure the pressure again with a decent set of guage and start from there.

LOL, yes I did. the blue ones from walmart. I will get a better one and do it again. Thanks.

There were at at least a couple of TSB's on this problem (no recall). Maybe call a local dealer, give them the VIN and see if there is anything for your truck. I think they did extend the warranty on a couple of the problem issues with the trucks.

the chasis is at 125k mi but the new motor/block is only 40+K miles.

My advice is, check your pressure first, is it full or near empty? If near empty = pull a vacuum,  does it hold vacuum? No = leak somewhere,  possibly same cause as what most reported. Always troubleshoot first.

well when I use the gauge/trigger hose to can for recharge, the needle moved all the way to right at the RED indication..is that Full pressure? Or do I use a different tool for pressure reading? Thanks though.

Does not hurt to check, worst they can say is no, where you are at right now.

A lot of the ones extended went to 150,000 miles.

You need one of those AC guage with Low and High port connector. Check with your local Autozone to see if they still rent them out, at one point selected Autozone rents them out just not sure about now. Connects to both low and high port with AC on max and see where the pressure is.

Reason for warm air could be due to low freon (leak), blockage ( needs pressure from both low and high side to determine this), overcharged also causes warm air.

I had the same problem with my 2015 Silverado. It was indeed a BAD condenser and this is a known problem but they (GMC/Chevy) will not issue a recall. I had a new condenser installed and instantly cold air again. The auto shop that I went to said they have replaced "many" Silverado's with the exact same and very expensive issue. They also said it was because of the poor design of the condenser bracket mount.

thing is I just recharged with an 18 oz in july, which isn't much since the actual amount is 29 oz.  But now it is out, only warm air.
