2015 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2 Issue and intel

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2. 71000 miles   So I’ll cut to the chase.  I caught the shitty tranny, I opened the door for jokes lol.   Seriously torque converter issues etc.    I’m curious how many of you all who changed just the torque converter ended up with no other issues regarding the torque converter or transmission ?

Are there aftermarket torque converter that are better then shitty GMC?

I’m trying to decide fix or bail on this truck.

Thanks in advance.

i disabled TCC function in gears 1,2,3 this seems to be OK at 55,000 miles so far, knock on wood.. i also run a spin on oil filter after the trans cooler to minimize metal debris

try a 6L90E converter 6 bolt, those are on the 2500-3500's and they dont have the same failure rate as the 6l80E  or 1500 trucks.

i would install a pressure gauge or scan it with datalog software to check what the pressures are, if pressures are too low you have high wear.

not much other truck options out there, with chip shortages. i would fix it. 6.2L trucks pull a premium due to power potential but waite 6.2 trucks don't have 6 speeds, not sure what the upgrade is for 8 speed trucks?

I had my torque converter changed early on with my 2015 Denali.  Then an oil change ar around 55,000 and that fixed it the second time.  They found out it wasn't the converter, it was the oil they were using.

Makes no sense to me, but the oil change fixed the shutters.

Had the shutter on my 2016 Sierra 6.2l 8 speed tranny at 32000 miles.  There is a TSB to change tranny oil to a special Mobil 1 Blue.  Shutter gone.  I pull a TT from time to time so I plan to change tranny oil every 30,000 miles or so.

I doubt the oil is causing the shudder, I'm willing to bet the service dept is doing a tcm flash to fix certain parameters and doing a relearn and purge trans operation.  I would definatly have the dealer do this if you can
