Parasitic amp Draw

hardhead10

Question

I'm trying to diagnose a parasitic drain.

I have my meter set at 10 dc amp and ma setting. I see the vehicle going to sleep but every 60 seconds it goes from .17 amp to 63 amp for 5 seconds, this will continue for hours.

My questions are what could this draw be, and what is the normal amp draw for my 04 Z71 Suburban?

Must've forgot a decimal point there ... or else you've got a fuse twice the size of the meter. 😄

170mA is way too much. .017A would be acceptable. You'll need to remove and reinstall fuses until the amp draw goes away - that will narrow down whatever circuit the failing component is on, and you can go from there.

There's a mV to amp draw conversion that you can find online, and get from reading across the tops of all the fuses as they sit in the box. That can be more beneficial than removing fuses, which will then wake up whatever module is on that particular circuit for X amount of minutes. Finding amp draws on modern vehicles can be a royal PITA sometimes.
