Turns out it is a M8-1.25. A flange nut like on the rear of the heat shield would work great but I used a lock & flat washer and a nut combo as Home Depot was out of flange nuts.

Your blind. Not sure what that did for ya but there ya go.  If you go back probably first page or so on this thread I.believe the process to check the fluid it there. It's a similar process as my 11' BMW X5 and yes much more annoying, not a quick check after fuelling up or anything.

There is a sticky at the top of this section and even in this very thread on what you need to add a trans dipstick. It’s only three parts plus one nut and GM sells the parts. It’s not a hard install I just did mine a couple days ago.

Looks like he is talking about the fill plug and not the level check plug. Hard to tell for sure what model that is but it likely has another plug in the bottom of the pan for level checks. Not to mention the fact that the truck needs to be at operating temp and running to do a level check. 

You have to vet sources on TY, lots of people on there that dont know what they dont know, this guy is a good example.
