Transmission Dipstick...?

Is this an actual bolt on option for these new transmissions?  By that what I really mean is will this work as is with my 2021 3500HD with the 6.6L8T V8?

Call and ask. They had sticks at one time. Sometimes an earlier unit can be fit. Sometimes outfits like B&M or Banks offer kits. I was just showing what is possible.

Good point, and point taken.  I just figured maybe you knew something I didn't.  Well you probably still do generally speaking but was just thinking in terms of the question at hand.  Thanks for the thought though.  I will probably look in to this in the near future.

Anything is possible but there in lies a clearance issue.  The cab/firewall clearance has gotten even tighter on these T1 trucks.  The engines sit even closer to the firewall/cab sits closer to the engine so the room for a tube has been reduced.  This might even be why GM got rid of them.

So how do we move a very well educated guess to a reality check?

You game?

Everyone is on the edge of their seat now.

I want to first thank newdude one more time for this info.  It will come in very handy, and already has sadly.

Now my rant will begin...

Had my truck booked in this morning (9am) for the recall(trans cooler jumper line at the crimp) and my first oil change while its there(free so why not).  Got the truck back at about 145pm. Started walking away and saw the paper work said "DIESEL ENGINE OIL SERVICE &FILTER CHANGE HYPURON & MPVI". (I put custom badges on the damn truck that say 6.6L L8T V8 right on the hood) They say oh no he just did the paper work wrong he put the right oil in.  Drove away test drove a short highway run n back and noticed some hard shifting and not what it was when i dropped a problem free truck off in the morning.  I assumed fluid level.  I stopped at a store got put and look at all this coolant pissing out the front end on to the ground.  So ran it back to them. Drove right inside and let it leak on the floor.  Didn't have to explain much. But I did anyway.  Opened the hood amd it was everywhere.  They took it back in the shop.  20 mins later brought it back out and sayd it was a bad crimp.  When I called to book it in on friday. They said there was one part in stock and they would put my name on it.  So not sure how they fixed the bad crimp but it wasnt pissing as much.  They said they washed it off quickly but i still saw some dripping so went to the carwash.  It was clean under the hood but when i look under to start spraying abit better i notice all the factory under coat on the front driver's side sprayed off and was shiny metal now.  FML.   So I went home let it sit abit  then go look and its still dripping in my driveway.  Not much bit it is still dripping.  So I called and long story short(lol) told them Im on my way.  Dropped the truck off for the night because its 5 by then and told them to take their time and do it right this time.  So dropped off a problem free truck this morning and picked up a truck with 3 issues now.  So Thank you for the information on checking transmission fluid in my truck.  The tech obviously has no use or time for that so I will have to figure out how to set up 4 jack stands so the truck is level in the air to check it myself going forward.  Thanks GM for making a simple task such a pain in my @$$ now.  They probably would like us to have the tech do it properly but thats obviously not am option for me or many others.  Any for the guys who want to do this themselves, they are probably going to make sure and do it properly.  There is no need to make life harder than it has to be.  AlI can do is shake my head.  I do also just wsnt to say,  I'm a pretty lenient guy.  I let a lot of stuff slide and generally give the benefit of the doubt to people. But I aint got time for this **** and Im done giving the big guys a free ride.  Im over that.  I paid a lot of money for many many (Chevy and GMC)trucks and with just 4000kms on the dash this is unacceptable to kick it out the door without even confirming it is good to go. I meam cmon I looked at the spot it was parked in when i got back and you could see the leak was already there whenit was parked FFS.  Rant over, for tonight...

Well, I got it back yesterday.  They claim it was "just residual fluid mostly".  That was a lot of residual fluid then, and what does "mostly" mean anyway. SMH.  The advisor said "I dont know what kind of undercoating was on their but it pretty much came off even when i just touched it, but we did the better duraguard on it anyway and fixed it up."  I said ok that will have to do but fyi it was the factory undercoating that was on there.  Looks like they just spray bombed a can of black spray paint or cheap bedliner type can but I guess at least its not bare metal anymore, although I could've and maybe shouldve done a better job myself.  So I grabbed the keys went home and drained the oil and refilled with some 5w30 I had sitting there forever n a day.  Let it run then drained that and refilled with some Rotella.  Now I have piece of mind that was done correct.(believe it was a T40 torx I used on the drain plug i think) I believe after taking issue with it they checked the trans fluid level properly because it seems to shift fine pulling my trailer this morning and unloaded too.  So I cleaned under the truck a bit with some brake clean while i was under their because there was still coolant dripping from the plastic shield under the rad/fan shroud area.  Kept dripping from this pin hole(must be a drain hole for any liquid that might get in their somehow)  think i got it all now tho and so far seems good to go again.  Hopfully they fixed it for good seen as how the truck was problem free before this.  At least they got it done but IMO opinion that tech needs to double or even triple check his work rather than kicking it out the door so quickly moving on to the next one.  That would've saved a headache for me and the dealer as well as kept my confidence in them up. As of now they are back in my ****** books once again in confidence in their competence. I get how they need to make money and can't spend all day on a 1 hour job but if they charge dealer rates then they need to take enough time to get the job done properly the first time whether its warranty or not.  Ill be going back under their today to grease all the fittings.  They were nice enough to do the upper ball joints but no others when they did the oil change, and set the tire pressure to the exact same they were set when i dropped it off although they made sure to write what was on the door jamb

Lol but not my first rodeo, i expected that.  I did find there is a drain plug on the trans pan tho now on the gassers which is nice. But just taking a quick look around couldnt find the fill plug on the trans yet...but after looking at the pic again, i  think i  was looking for it on the side of the trans....

That picture of the ports I posted.  The one that's in the bottom of the pan.  You can drain with it, but you won't get all of the fluid out.  That plug is higher than the bottom of the pan as its meant for doing the fluid level check.

If you end up doing a trans service yourself down the road, keep that in mind.  It will still leave a 3-4 quarts in the pan if you pull it before dropping the pan the rest of the way down.

Yeah. I got ya.  Thank you kindly sir.  Pan drop will be needed unless changing excessively.  Mine looks to have a drain plug more central to the pan rather than off to one side. But I do ha e a bad memory lol. Im sure its the same as the pic you have there.  Although it is gona be much more awkward and a lot more of a pain for refilling.  As long as the trans temp is within range it will no doubt make filling to the proper level somewhat easier.  Just fill til it comes out and cap it once it slows to a drip.  Much messier than all my previous year trucks.

It has been verified that a tube & stick from a 2019 HD with the 6L90 is a direct fit. Just waiting on my seal to install the assembly. Part numbers as follows:

Dipstick tube: 24265546

Dipstick: 24271875

Seal (grommet to seal tube to trans): 15796802

I'll make a write up for this site when my seal comes in. There's a thread over at the dieselplace but it gets even less traffic than this place for obvious reasons (don't think GM gas HD owners would think dieselplace for info).

This is on my 2021 3500HD CC std box 4wd using the parts numbers listed. You will also need a nut for the stud on the side of the bellhousing for the hold down on the side of the tube. Not sure if its a 6mm but it takes a 10mm socket so it likely is. The one on the heat shield is interchangeable.

Makes filling the trans much easier. I intend to weld in a drain plug on the pan when I service the trans. The one thats in the pan when new is for checking fill level at operating temp.
