I have my 2015 GMC Sierra 6.2 today started my drive to work as I was coming around bend in road my service engine light started flashing and my anti lock light lit. Engine started shaking and whole truck was shaking. Snap on scanner said code u0401 and also engine misfire.

Could be a few things:

OBD II fault code U0401 is a generic code that is defined as “Invalid data received – engine control module (ECM), but sometimes as “Invalid Data Received from ECM (Engine/Electronic Control Module) /PCM (Powertrain Control Module) “A””, and is set when a communication fault occurs between two or more control modules.

U0401 CHEVROLET Possible Causes

  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
  • Engine Control Module harness is open or shorted
  • Engine Control Module circuit poor electrical connection

U0401 CHEVROLET Meaning

A Controller Area Network (CAN) is a vehicle bus standard designed to interconnect automotive devices without a host computer. Operating information and commands are exchanged among the devices. The devices have programmed information about what messages are needed to be exchanged on the serial data circuits. Some devices are constantly receiving information from other devices through serial data communication network. The invalid data Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when a receiving device detects a discrepancy in the information it receives from the Engine Control Module (ECM) causing its integrity to be questioned.
