Just bought new 2021 Sierra AT4

First post here, but long time reader!

 

I just traded in my 2014 Sierra after the transmission conked out only about 650 miles from home while we were heading to CO for vacation.  So, rather than spending 6K and 2K for A/C work, I traded it in and bought a new GMC 1500 AT4.   The dealer had NOTHING on the lot, but shows delivery of the truck I bought, to be next week.  I just checked with GMC, and they told me the same thing the dealer did.

 

I'm kinda excited about this, even though I wasn't planning on buying a new truck yet.  I'm also a bit worried about delivery next week.  Can y'all tell me if the status you get from GMC is pretty accurate?  I guess I'm asking how worried should I be?  I'll be cutting it close, but salesguy was pretty positive. He said, if it isn't here, I'll ship it on a truck to you!  (I got that in writing!)

The delivery date estimate i received from dealer when i got mine was very accurate.  I also bought mine that was being shipped that day.  They said it would be 2-3 weeks. It arrived at dealership in 2 1/2.  The dealer kept me updated and let me know where the truck was in the delivery process.  Enjoy the new truck and congrats!!!

I bought my '21 AT4 Duramax on July 3rd. It was supposed to arrive that same day but I'm still waiting. I chatted with GM today and they have no clue when the truck will arrive. Same story with the dealer. I'm not happy since I'm driving my wife's car to work and she is unable to do errands. My other car, a Wrangler YJ runs great but it has no A/C so it is out of the question because it is too hot in Hell Paso TX. Hopefully I'll get the truck soon. I suspect I will be making my first payment without a truck.

Tell your dealer to make the payment. 

 

What are you doing with a vehicle without A/C in Hell Paso, TX?

I am planning on asking GM to pay the first payment if I don't have the truck soon. 

 

I never planned on installing the A/C on the Wrangler since most of the time I drove with just the top on, safari style. 

 

Also I'm retiring (early retirement at 51-52) in a year or so and we are moving to our mountain house. No need for A/C there. Just heat.

You completed the sales transaction without actually taking possession of the vehicle?  First I've heard of that.  Is it your responsibility to insure it as well?

 

Why not just put down a deposit?

The reason was that I was going on vacation and since I had placed a deposit and they required me to take delivery within 48 hours of the truck arriving at the dealer, they recommended I complete the transaction before I left that way the truck was mine. 

 

I got a call from the dealer today that it had arrived. It is sitting on my driveway.

OK.  Another way dealers manipulate situation in their favor, but if you want a truck now you don't have much choice.

 

I have had my '21 AT4 6.2L for almost three months now and am very happy.  Hope yours is great!
