Rev Limiter

I was wondering if my 2016 Silverado has a rev limiter? If so, does it apply when in manual. Someone asked me recently and I had no clue, so I am just curious now. Thanks!

Yep you do. Probably at 6000 is my guess though I'm not too familiar with the 5.3. You're welcome to try it out :) it's quite dramatic when it hits because it cuts fuel not just spark like some limiters. You won't hurt anything by hitting it.

So does this happen even when in Manual Mode? I know previously I was in M1 and didn't realize and the tach was pretty high. Luckily I realized it in short order but it definitely raised an eyebrow, lol. Thanks for answering, much appreciated.

Yep. There's something in the the truck-based OS that prevents it from auto-shifting on the 1-2 when in manual mode. I've tried and tried to change that via HP Tuners with no success.

Other vehicles I've driven just automatically shift for you even in manual mode.

So if I understand properly, it won't auto shift but it will still rev limit and perform the safety functions to prevent damage? Interesting...

My other car when in manual mode is all on the user doing what is necessary.

Yea there is two of them.  There is a limiter when in park to about 3500rpm-4000rpm.  Once you are moving, the engine's actual limit is 5800rpm for the 5.3 truck engine, 6000rpm for the 6.2 truck engine.

The time I did it I was moving. Was in a loud construction zone in slow n go traffic. I noticed my gas pedal felt odd, looked down and the tach was at 6k. I quickly got off gas and shifted into drive when I realized. I obviously shifted it one click down to far when putting it in gear. Wish there was a way to not go into manual so easily. But at least the truck has safe guards.

Manual mode will automatically shift for you, but you do have to select the highest gear you want to use (before/during driving doesn't matter). Its great for downshifting when towing/hauling, and aggressive driving. Say your cruising in high gear, drop it into manual (foot on/off gas doesn't matter) and it will downshift to 6th. And it won't go back into 7 or 8 unless you manually select/up-shift to 7 or 8. Keeps the revs higher (over 2000rpm), where you really feel the 6.2 start to wind up.

And 6600rpm when the identical long block is installed into a corvette

And a camaro, or any other vehicle for that matter. Depending on tuning and modifications.

Really?

Well it’s good info to know when you drive a vehicle with a 6k rpm redline and the identical motor in another vehicle goes to 6600rpm.
