Sliders for Short Bed

 I remember reading a post that gave directions on how to measure with a string from the pin box, then with the string and a nail in a two by four in the bed to see if a slider hitch was really needed. However, I have done several searches and can't seem to locate the post. I think I remember how to do it, but would like some reassurance. Can someone out there help me find the post, or better yet, tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance.

Most short bed trucks are best served with a slider. One exception -- if your 5th wheel has an extended pin box, you can probably get by without one.

If you go to the URL below and ask your question, you'll probably get a lot more expert answers.

There is no cut and dried answer to your question. My 5er has an extended pin as does my neighbor. We have similar TV's with the same hitches. I can back my rig up to a 90 degree angle without hitting the cab or rear window. My neighbor can get only anout 60 degrees and his rear window will go. The easiest way is to take it to a parking lot and try backing up with someone as a spotter and then see for yourself. There are several lengths of extended pin boxes used my manufacturers which can make a difference in clearances. Don't just go by what someone tells you....find out for yourself.
