Just a guess. Oil aeration.

I have not heard of that yet.   Do you mean like too much oil in the crankcase, or like air getting into the pressurized oil system somehow ?

They did change the cylinder deactivation after 2014. And added it to the 6.2. Some of those failed before they left the lot. I haven’t had a problem with my new vehicles but one. It was covered under warranty. This is all for a couple miles per gallon in a controlled environment.

How true !  I'm sure that my AFM didn't save even close to the $3500 that I spent to fix/delete the system.

Literally foaming. A crankcase is a hurricane in a tea cup. They all use some sort of anti foam, some are better than others.

Just went through a lifter failure on my parents truck. A 2016 with mileage in the 50,000+ range. Was driving around 45-50mph and went to accelerate with a little bit of force, it jumped out of V4 and went into power fine. On decel it went back into V4 mode and the next time it came out of it the lifter collapsed on cylinder 7 and had a hard misfire but still ran.

5 months out of powertrain warranty because of age and not mileage. I know a few people at a local shop that did the work because I just didn't have the time, it still cost a pretty penny to get it fixed. Literally drove it 2 miles to the dealership and traded it in on a new truck after the repair was done lol. As everyone knows the used truck market is crazy so may as well take advantage of it and get the most value on a trade right now. They got exactly what they paid for the truck 3 years prior, so it was a wash to own it for that time not including that last repair bill.

Is it my imagination or is it almost always #7.

If so that explains why V6's never fail

Just for the heck of it.

I had a 93 Silverado, 5.7 4 speed before my current 12 5.3 6 speed. Over 230 K miles on the 93, towed with it. 1 trans after 200+ K miles. No motor issues. 3 K mile oil changes. Trans serviced every 25 K miles.

Brother in law bought a 1988 Silverado, standard cab, 8 foot box 3/4 ton at auction about 20 years ago. 5.7, 4 speed and 411 gears. It did have a new transmission. He paid $2K for it. I think it's mileage was in the low 100 K range. Truck was from a local Parks and Rec department. They traveled for over a year pulling a 30 foot trailer with it. Since then they have moved several times. He has pulled his loaded 10 K pound enclosed trailer for over 40 k miles and some other heavy towing. When he is towing heavy he run's straight 30 weight oil. He has used standard Fram oil filters. When not towing he used the recommended oil weight. 3 K mile OCI's. 25 K mile trans service.

He still has the truck. Over 210+ K on it now.

He has rebuilt the rear diff., the front end and a water pump.

Do they still build a solid truck?

I understand the frustration some have with the newer generation of trucks. Technology is great but the more there is the more problems it can cause. My 93 was so easy to maintain compared to the newer vehicles we own now.

I think they still build a good product but you hear about the problems more due to the internet. I bet they had similar problems years ago.

As some of you know I'm a firm believer in above average service intervals. I believe it pays in the long run if you are going to keep your vehicle for an extended period.

YMMV
