Good afternoon. I hope I'm in the right place since I'm new to the forum. If so I have a question about my truck navigation system. I purchased a 2014 Silverado and I notice my navigation does not work. the only thing I see when I click on it is the compass. could anyone provide any info as to what I need to do in order to get my navigation to work?

You more than likely have the IO5 radio which does not have the factory installed navigation.  The "NAV" icon/compass is for Onstar Turn-By-Turn navigation.  If you have a subscription to Onstar that supports turn by turn, you can have them send directions to the truck and the NAV icon will allow displaying of text turn by turn.

In your glovebox there's a white label with a bunch of 3 digit codes printed on it, as well as your VIN.  That label is the SPID label or Service Parts Identification label.  The 3 digit codes called RPO codes (Regular Production Option) tell you the options that are equipped in your truck such as engine, gearing, radio, transmission, etc.

On that label head to the codes that start with "I".  If you see "IO5" you have the non-nav radio which is turn by turn capable.  If you have the "IO6" radio, you have factory navigation.

There are aftermarket upgrade paths to make an IO5 radio have the factory nav from the IO6 radio.  Factory navigation for Chevrolet and GMC vehicles now available! (rostra.com)
