2015-2019 Tahoe and Suburban UV paint issues on hood and roof

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm having the same issue as everyone here. Back then I thought some obnoxious neighborhood kids had scratched my vehicle in the middle of the night but reviewed cameras & found nothing. I figured perhaps could've been some idiot at 1 of our local stops but it's now that I'm finding out this is a prevalent issue w/ GM.

We first noticed it about 2 years ago (year 2020) when the vehicle was only 4 years young. We drive a beige (sand colored) 2016 Yukon XL & the damage resembles exactly the above posted photos. Damage is all over hood. I haven't read through all the threads but... is there anyway of repairing aside from the ridiculous $2K repair I was offered here locally?

I'm obviously outside warranty coverage. Vehicle is parked outside but underneath palm trees (shade) year round. It's Miami so yes rain but no ice / snow. Honestly just shocked at the poor paint quality on these GMC vehicles. I read something in passing regarding a lawsuit of some sort? Does anyone know anything about this? Please advise. Thanks.

We are having the same problem I never seen anything like this before. There is definitely a defect in the paint we brought a 2015 Tahoe brand new at the time and the hood and roof are fading and now looks like scratches are coming now cause the paint job is NOT good. We take good care of our cars there needs to be a recall or lawsuit they need to cover cost and lost. We had an avalanche before this and we traded it in for the Tahoe and the paint job on the avalanche looked brand new when we did. We care for tahoe the same way we did the avalanche haven’t changed a thing. I have a 2010 Lexus which I bought brand new and we still have it 13 years later and paint job still looks brand new. I’m thinking of speaking to a lawyer if they don’t resolve this issue fast.

I am having the same issue with my 2017 Suburban, does anyone know what is becoming of the lawsuit, or have any idea how I can add myself to the class action lawsuit. I reported it to Chevy a couple yrs ago and it progressively got worse, my vehicle looks horrible.  I have had 4 other chevy suburbans in the past and never had this issue. I am also having an issue with the panels between the windows fade. I could only attach a few pictures.

EXACT condition of my brand new 2016 Tahoe. At first when I noticed it (about 3 years ago...warranty expired so didn't pursue Chevy on a recall issue, although I should have), i thought it was a clear coat issue. Still at 30,000 miles! I know plenty of vehicles with 100,000+ miles that don't have a paint issue like this! When I first noticed it, I blamed the automatic car wash. Manager told mem that's not from them and explained the pattern of the scratching is too erratic to be caused by their equipment. I actually agreed with him. These billions dollar companies should respect their customers loyalty and man up....it's worst publicity to be proven to know about this issue and decide to to nothing than to MAN UP, swallow their pride, and fix it. If there is any type of class action lawsuit for this, I'm in. Can we say LEMON LAW?

Please email me if you are having issues with you paint on he hood or roof of your Tahoe or Suburban.  I went to two auto body and they are telling me that GM knows of the defect in the paint UV protection and will not issue a recall.  So I need 25 people with same issue to start a class action lawsuit.  Please email me with pictures @   [email protected]

I have a 2017 Tahoe Z71 with the exact same issue. I just got a quote from a body shop for $7000+. The body shop told me to look up recalls because this was a common issue on these trucks.

My chevrolet suburban 2017 has been fading and getting worst everyday it started about a year ago. I took it to a shop to get quoted it would cost 2500 just to paint the hood .I lice in northcarolina almost every car the same age and model around where I live has the same problem . It's on the black cars I don't see it on white cars.

Hi! I am having the same issue with my 2017 Suburban. The hood and the roof's clear coat looks worn out and the paint fading. My car has been garaged for the most part and with all the Chevy's I have owned in the past, have never had this problem before.

I have a 2017 black gmc Yukon and am also having the same issues as everyone else. I went through GM last year and they suggested me going through my local dealer and when I did, it was $2500 get it repaired. I definitely feel like there’s something more they should be able to do as it’s a paint issue and not something from a drive through carwash, etc.
