What's your preference, AT4 or Denali?

Recommended Posts

Trying to decide what route to go when I order my next truck.  I had fully decided that it was going to be a Pacific Blue Sierra AT4, and then realized that they removed that color option for this model year.  Which made me start looking at doing a Denali instead.  Just wanted to catch the general opinion of everyone here on what they prefer!  Truck will be leased, so the only thing that I will do to either is a leveling kit, wheels and tires.

Thanks

I test drove a Denali and it was a very nice truck. I ended going with an AT4 CP for a few reasons.

#1) I live in Montana and didn't want low profile tires. Been through that with my last two German cars and it's a pain to have to dodge potholes. Sure I still try to dodge them but I have less of a chance at bending a wheel with more rubber. And then there's the off-road aspect.

#2) Personal preference only, but I just didn't care for all of the chrome on the Denali.

#3) The powered steps were great on the Denali. But with the slime they use to de-ice the roads up here I didn't see them lasting.

I had a 2017 Denali with the power steps and drove it through 4 winters in salty Michigan and never had a problem and I used them daily.  Each to his own but I prefer the Denali for the power steps.  AT4 is nice but not something I could live with. I am on Denali no.4,  2012, 2015, 2017 and 2021.

Personally I prefer AT4s because of the factory stance and look. Plus I like the rugged look on the outside and the leather seats inside. I think it just depends on whether you prefer chrome vs black/body match, and the things you're going to do to the truck. AT4s sits higher factory, so a leveling kit will run you about 4 inch total higher, whereas a leveling kit on a Denali will be about 2 inch higher total. Power steps are something that you can always add to the AT4.

Thanks for the responses guys!  I love the way the AT4 sits, always have.  And I have always been a fan of the all color-match!  But as far as wheel/tire setup goes, I will be running a factory 22 or replica 22, and 33s.  So the extra 2 inches from the AT4 is actually not necessary for my application.  I'm just hesitant on the chrome grille for the Denali, as it is a LOT of chrome!  lol  I would tone it down some by replacing the factory mirror caps with body color, but the front end is still a little gaudy!  My last 3 trucks have been silver, all colormatched variants, and I've said repeatedly that I wanted some color on my next one.   But did see a white AT4 the other day, leveled, 22" black wheels and 33" MT tires, and really liked the look!  So many good options to choose from honestly is the reason I'm having so much trouble deciding!

If you are going to off road, then the AT4, otherwise the Denali. More content and better ride with the adaptive suspension. Never understood buying the off road package just to add bigger wheels, that just defeats the purpose and loses some capabilities.

I went with the AT4.  I live on the coast where street flooding is frequent.  I wanted the ground clearance.

I also wanted the power steps so I installed AMP’s on my AT4 and love them (actually like them better than the factory GM steps).  They tuck up tighter to the truck and drop down lower for ingress and egress.

I have had several GM trucks and always felt they looked too low to the ground, but the AT4 remedied that and with the steps tucked up underneath it really looks good.

The AT4 is definitely my favorite in the way it looks and sits! But color options are a little disappointing! I wanted a blue AT4, they cut that option this year. Next color option would have been a Satin Steel, there are at least 6 satin steel AT4s in my small hometown. Actually have it in my mind to go with a white one and do some black wheels and 33s. What color did you go with?
