8" lift good for off road?

Recommended Posts

I use my truck (2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ) as a daily commuter, but I would also like to use my truck for off roading and camping on weekends or holidays. I took it out wheeling a few times and the stock suspension does well, but not enough ground clearance for some of the trails I want to do.

Which lift would be better for mostly street use and occasional off road, Superlift 8" with King CO/Shocks or BDS 8" with Fox CO/Shocks? I want to go 8" because I just like the way it looks and I don't want to do a lot of trimming to fit 35's. I want as comfortable of a ride as possible on road, but still capable enough to go off road when needed.

I have a zone 6.5 with a 2” spacers on the front. Running Fox 2.5 coilovers with res on all four corners. Put the bds leaf kit with spacers to level me out at 8.5”. I take my truck off roading and it is my daily driver. Went with Cognito UCA and Bds traction bars. Tuned my truck and toy my Dirtbike and other toys for camping.

I've gone more places in a stock height Z71 OBS on plain old Michelin M+S tires than most people would dare go, let alone with a lifted truck. I say that because lift height won't really make it better off-road. Do what you think looks good and never ever go cheap on shocks. If I were going that high with those heavy wheels/tires, I'd consider nothing less than a 2.5" body Fox/King setup. You'll need the control they'll offer.
