Front camera view while parking

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure if I'm missing something or not here. My rear camera comes on when I am in reverse, and I have camera view set to split screen and also show the front view. However when front parking at slow speed the camera will not trigger unless I select the camera icon on the infotainment screen. Is there a way to have it come up automatically? My wife's RX350 will at under 5mph and it is very handy.

The camera system is complicated and has many views if the truck is equipped with the complete camera system.  It takes some reading and practice to become familiar with all of the feathers.  The excerpt below is out of the 2020 Owner's Manual:

If equipped, the front view
camera also displays when
the Park Assist system
detects an object within
30 cm (12 in).

If you choose the Camera Option on the Infotainment System and then choose the backup view, the camera view will shift to the front camera view when you put the truck in any forward gear and then shift back to the rear view when shifted into reverse.  That's handy when lining up to the trailer to get hitched up.

Again, there is a lot to learn about these camera views.

Read that part, and understand it. I haven't tried it out yet, but I will. I did find the reverse to drive toggle though it works it be much nice if the camera would just come on at speeds below say 5 mph.

I didnt get the full camera suite, but did get the bed view this time and here is my thoughts.  Bed view is a good feature.  My issue with it, is it doesnt work at night at all, its pitch black.  The back up camera at night is very grainy and not very good.  What I do like about the back up cam is it can be turned on while traveling down the road to look at a hitch connection while towing.  The downfall on my truck at least in doing this is you have to toggle through the menu to do it and it doesnt have a shortcut button at the bottom, unless I am missing something.

Thus far the camera system I give it maybe a 6.5 out of 10 based on expectations and past experience with other vehicles.

The extra camera views are definitely nice to have. I too think a little more thought should have been put into the ease of operation. An icon at the bottom of the home page would be very useful.

I have the full camera option and it comes on when in reverse from tailgate. I use the cab mounted when hitching up the 5th wheel but am disappointed that there are no grid lines on cab view. That would be helpful to judge distance from the pin. As for the front view it comes on when the driver display goes from yellow to red which must be 12" or less.

I just switched my bed and bumper trailer connections so I can plug the rear trailer camera into the bed connection instead of running wires down to the bumper. Have not tested yet or set up "invisible trailer" option. I know I will have to cheat the system to make it work.
