Infotainment Software Update - It will cost you $

Recommended Posts

I purchased my truck December 2020. I had been looking forward to having  Apple CarPlay. We have it in a Jeep Wrangler and an Audi S5. On my drive home everything worked fine. After that I noticed it was hit and miss with connecting. 95% of the time it would work first thing of the morning. After that it was about 40%. I tried several cables that worked in the other vehicles plus even got a new Apple cable. Never consistently worked.

I kept trying different connection methods, before starting, after starting, Bluetooth disconnected, etc.

Saw the post on the software update V155 that is supposed to fix this and other issues so I went to the dealer to find out about it. While I was there the tech had an emergency and had to leave. Only one electronic tech. I was told to call back and make an appointment as he would be out 2 weeks. I let a little time pass and called back today to set up an appointment. I was told that GM now charges $145 for updates when you bring your vehicle in.

I contacted GM and was told that is correct. So now I have to pay to get them to correct an issue they knew about on a truck that is less than 5 months old.

GM knew this was an issue as less than 2 weeks after I purchased I got an email from GM Quality Control asking if I were having any issues with CarPlay and Bluetooth.

Just wanted to make you aware about changes to the warranty program.

Just paid $110.09 to keep and update the Microsoft/Windows package that is a yearly charge for my laptop. Going to cancel it this year, so I understand a lot of functions will no longer work.

Nothing is free forever.

But how many times do we have to pay for it? I bought a dish to watch TV commercial free and get my sports. I like(d) to watch NHRA. FOX was part of my package. A year later a different provider bought NHRA content and I had to buy that channel. Then a year later they played all but the final rounds and I had to buy 'the finals' on a Internet net work. That is...If I was to see what I paid to see buying the DISH package.

My response was to cancel by sports package, ditch NHRA and never look back. This box packaged in a box packaged in a box crap.... Yea....I'm about ready to unplug it all. Phone...Internet...Satellite....

In the truck I need a steering wheel, loud and dead pedal and something to select a gear. I don't need it to provide directions. Answer my phone...I don't even need a radio...this crap is OLD.

I am not asking them to give me the update that will come out in 2055 for the iPhone 27.5 that will allow me to talk to my great grand kids on Mars for free, all I want is for my phone to connect like they told me it would when they sold it to me. GM knew there were issues or they would have never contacted me asking if I had issues with connecting. Then 4 months later issue a bug fix that “fixes” the issue.

I understand that electronics can be hit or miss sometimes, I have to unplug the cable box and let it reset occasionally, but I would be mad if I had to do that 50% of the time I turned the TV on.

I will be respectful with the response, used truck prices are incredibly high right now, good time to unload the truck if it bothers you enough to create a post about the problem.

See what you can get, then try another brand and see how they stack up.

Grumpy you are very smart man, you pay attention to daily events, yet you seemed surprised about the USA we live in today.

Things have value, if you look at, for an example, how much would Pepper cost you if you had to buy each part, then either assemble the truck yourself, or have someone else do it compared to buying it on a lot?

Things are way overpriced, and the consumer will pay way too much, I live in one of the most taxed states ever.

I can not even remember a time that someone has not had their hand in my wallet, Hip National Bank is becoming a community vehicle to support everyone except me🤔

That's a very extreme action to take given he said his vehicle is only 5 months old. I actually do sympathize with him - GM delivered a product with a functionality that didn't work correctly on delivery. That's on them to fix it, just as every single other manufacturer has done for their vehicles (and even GM, but I suspect this is an outlying case?), not on the buyer deal with it. The vehicle does not perform to OEM operational standard, ergo it's a defect and covered.

Btw - I also know this because I had the same issue with my truck I just got 3 days ago, but I noticed the problem right away upon delivery and they took it back to service and flashed/updated it right there and then. No charge. Said it was under warranty (as it should be).

Did this correct the problem and does it connect most/all of the time?  I plan on having the software updated and argue about the cost. I will see what happens.

Oh I'm not surprised Jim; angry, dismayed, annoyed on occasion even amused...but not surprised.

Told the wife at the beginning of the dot com. bubble,

"Now that 'they' can no longer earn money...they will find ways to steal it".

Most of this is legalized theft.

 Greed and grab
