Customer Experience

My recent experience as an GMC owner has been horrible. I have a 2016 GMC Sierra with 51k miles that is less than 1 month out of warranty. Last week one of the lifters stuck and is causing cylinder #7 to misfire. Local dealership SouthtowneGM originally said it would cost $90 to diagnose. They call back a couple hours later and now need $400 more just to determine the issue. A GMC representative tells me a dealership must diagnose the issue before they can determine if they can provide assistance. It's ridiculous that I have to pay a dealership $500 dollars for them to tell me what I already know. I had a local certified mechanic diagnose for FREE. Its a stuck lifter!! Caused by the AFM. Common Issue. GMC  will not even tell me if there is a chance if they may be able to help me out without making the $500 gamble. For something a certified mechanic has already diagnosed. I will be heading to the Toyota dealership this weekend in a 2016 GMC with 51K miles firing on 7 cylinders.

I fixed mine in my driveway same cylinder it was easy there is even a tutorial I could link you too.

AFM delete in the ECM after fixing the dead lifter which went very quick as well.

New valve cover and intake gasket and good to go, I would never consider getting rid if it in todays market especially with a mechanical issue that will kill the value of it.

Stop driving and order a torque wrench and a few parts you will be delighted that you did.

There may be a person in your area that specializes in this quick and easy fix I have done a few myself after my own was soooo easy and gratifying.

LMK I can link you up or LMK where you are at geographically.

Cheers

Thanks Robby for the advice.  I spoke with the dealership today and believe it or not GM is going to cover the repair.  No cost to me. I honestly thought I was on my own and that the dealership was trying to take advantage of the situation. But it seams for now that they have made this right.

If things change, I will be attempting to fix the issue myself. I'm pretty handy and have all the tools I would need.

I am still interested in the video if you do not mind sending.  Not sure if you can post links, but you can email it to me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Kyle

Kyle this is the EXACT method I used with great success 5 times now, once (first time) on my own one owner babied since new 2013 5.3 Silverado.

I watched quite a few videos on the subject and even though this guys shop was a bit messy and he seemed unorthodox he really DOES know what he is doing and gives the best detailed tutorial that I could find on the subject.

I did buy his tool and used the AFM delete tuner that he recommended.

He has a lot of good info on his channel.

No affiliation etc, it just really helped me.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Had the same issue with an 2008 Silverado that I no longer own.

Out of warranty by an oil change.

Dealership wanted 4k to fix it.

Put up a stink with GM and I had to pay 1.2k out of my pocket.

I now have a 2017 Silverado 5.3 liter. Should have learned my lesson on the '08. This truck has 28500 miles on it and it is throwing misfire codes. Out of warranty mind you.

Dealership says 3 bad fuel injectors and that will be 2K to replace just the 3 injectors and clean the other and the fuel system (throttle body).

I would do the work myself but I'm in declining health and wouldn't be able to do the work. I have all the tools. I'm a son of a mechanic and I know how to turn a wrench, just wish I could.

So once fixed, which truck should I be looking at to trade for?

Oh I'm in Texas .The injectors are cover for 150K miles or 10 years in other states. There is a bulletin out there that states this. Not sure how to attach it here.
