Wheel Well Liners / Guards

Recommended Posts

What’s the consensus on those wheel well liners / guards for the rear wells that are unprotected above the tires?  I see these getting dinged with gravel and dirt, leading to paint chips and scratches  and then rust. Never had a truck that didn’t cover this area.   Thoughts?  Thanks.

They are also quieter on gravel roads with the liners installed.

GMC they are standard on all trims except the base Sierra.

On Chev  they are standard on LTZ and HC, available in bed protection package on 1LT, RST and LT TB.

$150 thru GM accessories at your favorite dealer.

I installed the Husky version. Rough Country has one but they were on back order when I checked. Like that I can wipe the plastic down. The fiber ones aren’t as easy to clean. At least for me. I am sure you will get different opinions.

looks better with something covering the wheel well.

Mine came with them.

Not a fan.  Now I have to figure out how to wash behind them to get the grit and little bit of salt we get out from behind them and off the sheet metal.  If I still lived up north I'd probably have taken them off.

Never bothered on my last truck that didn't have them but the plan was either paint the wheel well all black with some heavy spray paint or even get it bed linered.  Might still do it with this truck.

Any opinions on the Husky version vs the factory ones  in the post above?

Husky Wheel Well Liners

Advantages and disadvantages.

Husky plastic liner = will not hold salt, grease, dirt or water, and can be sprayed completely clean, and will not hold that gunk up against any metal, which may cause corrosion and rust. I'd prefer them for that reason alone.

They may be slightly noisier when driving in wet conditions. The fabric ones are likely better at abating noise.

IMO if you live in a winter climate where they heavily salt the roads, rear wheel liners are a MUST have. I actually find it hard to believe they are "optional". All it takes is a couple of good rock dings to allow rust to start biting into the wheelhouse and box.

do you happen to know how much that would cost? Would love to have that vs. a fabric or plastic liner.

Depends on what you want to do.

Some black spray paint or do it yourself bedliner?  $20 and your time.

A good shop that was flexible about their applications could probably fit it in while they were spraying a pickup bed for not much.  I've seen $50-100 for little jobs like that.  Also seen crazy estimates from places that don't like to do the little, "non-pickup bed" jobs.

Sure they do, you're just fooling yourself. Bedsides will rust through long before the wheel wells.

I like the GM ones. For one, I think the truck just LOOKS better having the wheel well all blacked out.

Two, I like these new "felt" type ones. They don't hold onto dirt and stains as badly as my spraylined wheel wells did on my 2007 Silverado.

Spraylining is probably the best option, and it's not THAT expensive. I don't live anywhere that I'm worried about corrosion, so I like the felt OEM liners on these.

I have a set of Husky liners that a purchased before realizing they wont fit the CarbonPro edition.  If anyone is interested in purchasing, just message me.

Another OEM fan 'here'.

When they first introduced the fuzzy style I was concerned they would be worse to clean than the previous version.

I've found cleaning not to be an issue.

If GM offered both the current ones and the original hard surface ones, I'd take the 'fuzzy' ones they offer now.

I was concerned when I purchased the felt type OEM liner, but now that I've had them about a year I'm happy that I made the purchase.  They DO help with road noise and they aren't any harder to clean than a rigid polymer liner.
