Can i put a Multi-Flex Tailgate on a 2021 Silverado 2500HD that did not come with one?

Recommended Posts

Would like to know if this is possible.  It would be great for my slide in camper setup. The Multi-Flex was not available at the time I got my truck. Not even sure it is available for the 2500HD.

Is the Multi-Flex tailgate only configured for a 1500?

Would sure like to know if I could replace my current tailgate with the new Multi-Flex. I realize lots of variables... camera, power lift up and down (which I have).  My trim level is a souped up LT Crewcab Duramax.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

As of right now, you'd have to get a GMC HD MultiPro tailgate used or a takeoff.  However even then, the gate might not 100% line up as GMC and Chevy are different box sheetmetal and rail tops.  If it fits, you'd lose power up/down but the power release wiring might not be there for the second gate portion so that might not even work at all.

Currently no Chevy HD multiflex gate.

1/2 ton gate is different than the HD gate so that wouldn't work.

Also, not cheap.  GM doesn't sell a whole gate assembly, just all of the parts and you'd have to assemble and have it painted.

Mike, did you have to do any rewiring of your harness?

I switched my tailgate and everything worked besides the tailgate step function, can't seem to get it to open and can't find anything in the forums or online. thoughts?

So I was able to ad one to my 23 silverado and same issue... no top release but everything else works. Took it to the dealership to try and sneak in a fix but they said it didn't come with the truck and no way to fix it. Not sure if they were lying or not but I am still looking for a fix. For now I have made a fix with zip ties to open the top manually until I find a fix for it.

You can absolutely take a GMC sierra, or a GMC Dinali multi flex tailgate off of one of those vehicles and put it on a Silverado 2500. You were going to need to go to the dealer and pick up the wiring harness if it did not come with the multi flex tailgate, and it will plug into the body control module near the spare tire. The interesting thing about the wiring harness is that the body control module puts power to both switches, but the upper switch for the small tailgate will not operate. It took a few hours running through wiring on the harness to realize that I could open both gates with the same switch so I wired the smaller gate to the large gate so that they both open at the same time. This does not bother me, and I do not have a hitch in the receiver where the small gate will come down and smack it.

you know which wires those were?  You’d be a God if you could give us, non electrically savvy, the knowledge of how to read the pin outs and which wires to tap into. Lol

luckily my tailgate had the harness so i was able to plug it in and run the bottom tailgate as usual, just haven’t been able to get the top one to open up, since i didn’t originally have that.

did any of you guys have the chevy power up/down tailgate to start? Or were you starting with a standard gate.

I have a new chevy with the power gate, and wondering if it will have the wiring since it is the upgraded gate over the standard non power gate?

i have the power down but not the power up option. So not sure if yours would be pre wired.

The “power down” would just be the remote release… the tailgate doesn’t have power itself to go down… so no extra wiring would be there

Interesting question

I have the power up and down as well and multi flex is only $200 option if you have that function so maybe the wiring is already there for the new one to work properly
