Lifters going bad on 5.3L-common problem apparently?

The problem is with the AFM/DFM & 0W20 oil. A bad batch of lifters.
IMO

My son is driving the wheels of my old 06 Chevy CC Z71 W/ 185000 miles on it and had zero issues……🤔

I completely agree if you just say it's the AFM/DFM and several bad batch of lifters. I don't think the oil has anything to do with it. I seen cars with 400k that ran on 0w 20.

Gm  is making a huge mistake in my mind by not steeping up to three plate. The 21 silverado I owned was made in Mexico for probably 20 to 25 grand. They sell it to me for 50k. The lifter problem is known by 99 percent of silverado owners. Why don't GM at least give rentals to the ones that need repairs. Stand behind their products with a 100k powertrain warranty for anyone that has lifter problems? I mean the silverado/Tahoe are GM cash cow, they would be out of business without them. How many thousands of loyal customers like me are done with the brand because of the lifters? The first recession might take them out, because their pushing all their loyal customers away by treating them like crap.

Adam….100% spot on! I’ve spoke with friends  and some dealership owners/techs That have eliminated the a AFM/DFM and switch to 5W-30 and I’ve had no issues.

I know leasing is not an option for everyone…… but in my opinion these trucks I’m not worth sub 60/80grand and probably won’t make it to 100,000 without some major repairs. So leasing is a good option to give them back their POS.  It works for us and I have a good rapport with my dealership so going over miles is not an issue either I sell them all right to a private party or the dealership buys them and covers my down payment. Been doing it for years. Except I bought the 06 Chevy crew cab which my son now still drives

My 2021 silverado 5.3 started rattling yesterday and one time today, so took it to the dealer.  It wasn't happening at the time of the visit, so he said bring it back when its happening.  Only4300 miles and I must wait for it to break down completely?  How safe is it to drive with this rattle and shaking going on? (intermittent currently )

No check engine or lights on the dash?

Mine lit up like a Christmas tree, shaking and knocking but I still drove it to the dealership. Just take it easy and stay close. Also demand they do both sides!

You should be safe. I guess the dealership needs you to blow the motor completely up. Maybe crack the block so all the oil and antifreeze will leak out, then just keep driving it untill it locks up. You will then get a new short block.

Hey Folks

I'm an owner of a GMC Sierra.  2015, 43,000 miles on it.  Bought it five years ago & added 20,000 miles in five years.  All the services etc been done.  For me this was the perfect truck until it developed what seems like the dreaded lifter/camshaft issue.  Here's my question.  If I get it repaired (instead of taking a hit on using it as a low rent trade in) will the repair last or is it just waiting to develop more/same issues.  I dunno if I'll ever trust it again, but mechanically how will it hold up after a repair of this type & are they usually successful or is it just a big old cool looking lemon?
