Are every new 2021 Silverado/Sierra selling for over MSRP???

I figure that is dealer specific.  We are pre-selling right now, to take advantage of the guaranteed rebates for this month.  Seems each month we get into this inventory shortage, the rebates are getting less and less.  We are giving full rebates, customer cash, as well as any other offers currently offered, and one of the few dealers around here still accepting GM Employee numbers.  We feel like when this is all said and done, people will remember the dealers ripping people off by marking them over sticker and not accepting certain offers, so we are sticking with it!

When you say pre selling are you actually completing the sale prior to the vehicle being on the lot?  If someone does a presale with you right now are they locking in the June discount even if their truck ends up arriving in August?

Essentially, yes.  Now, we are only preselling the ones that are already on shipment to us, that we know will arrive within a week or so.  Don't want to sell one and then have an issue arise later.  But yes, by doing a presell of a unit in transit, we lock in the discounts and rebates for the current month that is a guaranteed amount, doing away with the unknown of what the next rebates may be

That makes sense.  The truck I am waiting for is supposedly complete waiting for shipment.  I am guessing that translates to sitting waiting for some chips or components.  With the inventory being down I highly doubt shipping is a gating item.

If it's already produced and out for shipment, you should be good.  But the dealer can tell you if it's out for shipment, or on semi-conductor hold, we can track every step of the way on our ordered vehicles

I purchased a new 2021 Trail Boss LT for $4000 off MSRP in San Antonio at the end of May.  It was the last TB on lot and they would not budge off the price.  Luckily I got a great deal on my trade with lots of positive equity.

What type of times have you seen from the "awaiting shipment" status to arriving at your dealership?

Acquaintance works for GM (trades in Flint) and he says the biggest problem right now is lack of available transportation fueled by delays nationwide.  Here is what he said;  "The HD's are just as bad around Flint, but they are complete. Stored at former plants that are now gated flat lots. Just a shortage of methods to ship."

It's so hard to say anything about shipment times.  I've seen some within a week of hitting out for shipment status, and others I've seen drag out over a month.  A lot of that comes down to them being assigned to a transport truck.  Apparently their is a shortage of transport or drivers for them right now as well!

Friend is an over the road truck driver working out of Texas and he tells me truck drivers are in big demand. Younger people are not wanting to drive truck.  He said the company is paying big money to recruit drivers and offering bonuses to sign on.  Not as many talkers as they need.  He is working all he allowed to drive, he drives for national retailer.

As I am typing this I get this email from GMC dealerl

"Dear Michael,

Please read online about the rubber and global chip shortage. It has caused prices to increase in both new and used vehicle values. This means that if you are going to purchase you should purchase soon, even if it is not from us. Some other manufactures were hit with this production problem way before us. For now, we estimate that we should have vehicles for at least few more weeks.

Most Trade values have increased dramatically due to this market. We are just trying to inform people before it’s too late. Have a great rest of your week and stay safe."

Just to add.... I found out that as long as they have the VIN they can complete the sale to you with the incentives and actually deliver it to you later.  You as the buyer are accepting a little risk in doing that as you are taking "delivery" before the vehicle even arrives but with vehicles in demand right now dealers shouldnt have a problem unwinding and finding another buyer.

I "bought" mine on April 30, but didn't actually have my hands on it till two weeks later.

That's correct.  We have sold many vehicles lately doing exactly that.  Only had to unwind the one that went into hold due to semi-conductor shortage

I just bought 2021 RST Z71 on June 30th in CA. Dealer advertised 4000 off GM incentive ending June 1st.went through all the pre sale paperwork. Credit report job history etc. They came back with the $5000 dealer mark up. No way. I,m leaving. Hold on.They took $1000 off.Asked for my keys and pink slip on my truck trade in. They took off the 5000 and also lowered the interest rate so I could afford it. Picked the truck up after detail due to the holiday and really enjoy it so far. Silver ice metallic looks great!

Picked up my 2021 Z71 RST three weeks ago.  Couldn't find a Trail Boss.  Only 2 new 4x4s in the area with 3 dealerships.  I still got about $4-$5K below MSRP with incentives in Myrtle Beach, SC.
